Anyone got a preference on headlight bulbs for a gen1? I seen a bunch of different kinds online - brightness - wattage and colors - one was 3 colors - white looking ahead - yellow looking left and blue looking right. They are too high to experiment with - just thought i would ask around before ordering them.

DDM Tuning 9005 bulbs. 35 watt ballast, 4300k bulb color.

the first gen bulbs are 9005s. 9006 is what you would run for an HID housing.

Would JAX then also need the HID adapter rings from DLF? I'm not familiar with the Gen1s but Ive always been curious about that.

My adapters are only needed when replacing the OEM 9500 HID bulbs with 9006 aftermarket HID's.

When upgrading to aftermarket HID's with standard housing, Gen 1's can use 9005 series bulbs without an adapter.

ddm is the way to go if you want to wait 2 months for shipping. i use Xentec HID's they are 32.99 smallest digital ballasts on the market, free shipping anywhere in the usa, warranty and i get mine in 2 days from cali to florida. i have used them in 6 of my vehicles including my current 96 silverado and i just ordered a set for my 98 lsc. ditching the stock hid's before they burn out, one of them takes a long time to heat up currently so its time they go bye bye.

i've never waited two months. two weeks is the longest i've ever waited.
last set i ordered showed up even faster than that.

YMMV but DDM ships much faster than they used to.

Most of the cheap HID kits are all the same :q:q:q:q, all from the same factory, all from alibaba.com. Different stickers on the ballasts though. I run a 55w DDM kit in my Mark (took about 6-7 business days to show up at my door,) and a Xentec 55w kit in my projector setup in my Saturn (took about 6-7 business days to show up at my door) - guess what they both look the same and work the same.

9005 35 watt 5000K or 6000K, pic a brand. I bought a mixture. I have Xentec bulbs and don't remember the name of ballast but they are the slim for the lows and the thicker style for the highs. No reason for that but don't just buy bulbs. Get HID's because it looks like your housings are in good shape and they do not put out the heat that the halogen bulb will put out. This means you keep your chrome backing pretty much forever.

Halogen bulbs, kill the chrome reflective backing. Had my housings for a little over a year, NIB and they have never had a halogen lit inside them. Still look like new inside, without one trace of chrome burn.

So, to replace bulbs in a first gen, I would need 9005's, 35 watts, and 5 or 6K? for highs? What about my low beam? Really haven't got a grasp on these lights yet, my high beams are blue/white, did these come stock with the car? My low beams are :q:q:q:q pretty much.

the high beam bulbs and low beam bulbs are the same. both 9005s.
i do not suggest HIDs for the highs. you can't flash with them, and turning them on and off all the time will kill them.

9005 35watt 4500k HIDs for the lows, stock for the highs.

Good info

Thanks chris - didn't know they wouldn't flash but makes sense -- good info:Beer

lots of people run ddm. i've used 3 sets so far in family members cars, and so far, all good.
xentec is ok too, but i've never had any of those.

people whine about the shipping from DDM, but my brother just bought a some stuff from them, delivered in 7 days. so whatever.

10000k is gonna be hella blue/purple. 6000k is the highest i would ever go. that's still gonna be bluish.

dds-hid

I bought them - went with 8000k kit - she wanted blue and after 38 years she's getting blue lol - might have to change them later but she's getting blue lol.
Thanks again gang:xmas:

oops dds=ddm

with blue hid's you might as well keep your stock bulbs because blue doesnt light up the road. blue is one of them colors the human eye doesnt see very well, i cant explain it but you'll see how useless blue headlights are, specially if the cops stop you for them because they deffinetly will.

Ok i changed my order to the 6000k mad97lsc

6000K has a slight blue tint but more white. I run them in my highs and lows and as for flashing them as you are going down the road and don't want to blind others. I have flashed the hell out of my highs and it hasn't bothered them at all.

After you get your kit, you can always just pick out bulbs only and they are cheap. I have all different kinds boxed up that are different colors but I run dual 6K's and I see very good, no high beam needed, unless you live out in the country or travel down dark curvy 2 lane roads. I have learned with mine that once the highs have been heated up once, the next time they are turned on, the light is almost split second without warm up time.

High side hid

Thanks nolimit -- I seen on a marauder sight they were using hid on the high side with no apparent problems -- might try it some day - might not lol - you know how it goes - something else might come up i need to fix worse:Beer

Just get you a $32.00 Xentec kit for the highs and it's a done deal. That is if money allows this month. I know it's Christmas and all but if your housings have good chrome, you really want to keep it as long as possible. With HID's, that's pretty much forever or as long as you own the car. That's why I bought mine when I got the new housings. I can't afford new housings and one day, there ain't going to be any new housings left. Another reason I went all the way across the front end with all new corners and all. All of that will be obsolete one day and probably soon.

sharp car

Thanks man --- agreed
Dang nolimit that mark looks pretty sharp - especially with them black seats and doors plus the light color console and dash:gr_hail:
