hey guys im new here, and you seem like reasonable guys. Well im thinkin of gettin a mark and i know it has a cobra motor. if i do get one im thinkin i will want a positive displacement hairdryer. how hard is that? is it posible to switch to a manuel tranny? and whats the difference between a lsc and a non lsc car? will cobra aftermarket parts will work? (headers, cams, ect...) any answers to these questions would be much appriciated. thank you in advance for your replies.

first off usually the other a--holes jump in but i want to be the first, ITS NOT A COBRA MOTOR, THE MARK VIII HAD THIS MOTOR 3 YEARS BEFORE THE COBRA DID, THE COBRA HAS A MARK VIII MOTOR IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! christ................ ahhhhh much better. the only difference between a base model and lsc is the lsc has less body chrome, a different gear ratio, perforated leather, and true dual exhaust, thats all.

DAMN! Not even a HELLO!!!

Soon someone should say "Use the search function you n00b!" :D

First off, Hello! :D

Do a search for the manual swap cause several have done it with the T-56 and the 5 speeds (I forget if it was T-5 or T-3450 or whatever). A "hair dryer" usually means a snail turbo or supercharger. A positive displacement unit is available if you get a 96-98 Cobra kit or the 99/01 Cobra kit but both require some mods to make everything fit. I am not positive but I believe a first gen needs a new hood to clear the blower.

As for the engine, again use the search cause there are many threads on this subject. Yes a 96-98 Cobra plenum can fit but you lose cruise. Also the cams are the same just degreed a hair differently. The Mark also does not have the forged crank the Cobra has but it was a Mark engine first, not Mustang as Jamie pointed out.

Now a blower will be expensive but a better start would be gears, trac lok, driveshaft, exhaust, tune and a stall converter. You do that and will shock many fast cars on the street. Hell with only a tune and suspension mine upsets many new Hemi owners and older Stang owners. :D

Yup. I drive 110 miles every day and 90 of those miles have the cruise on so thats what has kept me from doing the mod. Well that and I think you have to trim the hood supports a little or drop the k- member down and I am too lazy for that. :(

its been done with cruise, just gotta relocate the cruise servo and make a bracket (or so ive heard)

i didn't have to modify anything but the bracketry and air intake to put the cobra intake on my second gen and i still had cruise. The first gen needs a hood to clear everything properly.

See when I was asking about this and researching threads the only posts I saw said that the cruise couldnt be used. I figured one day I would do themod anyway and figure out how to make it work. I figured moving the cruis sevo would work.

When you did it lsc8, did it really just hook right up or did it require a bracket to be made? I would like a Cobra plenum just cause they look so nice.

i had to cut and remake the bracket for the cruise and throttle cable, but it was no big deal. I could shoot a pic of it when you need it. I personally wouldn't do a cobra intake swap again. They are considerably cheaper now than when i did mine, but it's still not much of a power gain for the work involved. You also need at least a 4:10 gear ration to counter act the loss of torque. I did feel like the car rev'd faster, the throttle was smoother and it had more top end. I did pick up some gas mileage as well. I moved on to the s/c before i ever geared it which would have made a big dif, but the bang for buck just wasn't there in my opinion. If you were going to run a centri s/c or something it would be different.

I want it for looks mostley but I also have a friend that will let me have one for $100 in almost perfect shape, just missing the Cobra badge.

What do you mean again? It was never discussed, not once! Next thing you know you will tell me there are threads about why there is no heat in the car or if Cobra brakes will fit.

:p

Yeah yeah yeah.

I know they are only worth a couple hp but I am a car guy that loves engines and I like to pop the hood. I loved the way the engine looked in my 97 and 96 Cobras. Even die hard F-body guys compliment on how good a 96-98 Cobra engine looks.

If I wasnt into looks I wouldnt have just spent over a grand for new tires and wheels and about to spend another grand getting the dings and off color fender corrected.

laser do you have either of the cobras? as you can tell mine is in the sig. its the whole reason i bought the mark so i can relate... welcome to lvc and let the search become your friend....

No, sold the 97 years ago to buy a FRC Vette. Sold the Vette to buy an 03 Cobra vert, sold the Vert to move to Texas (dumb move, I know) and then bought the Laser Red 96 and sold it to buy the Sonic Blue 03 Terminator and then my father stole it from the body shop after they had it for 5 months cause he wrecked it and sold it for... *sigh* $12,000 :( It sux having the same name so they did not question the title when he sold it.
I still think about running him over with the Mark.

thanks for all all the replies folks, and btw howdy to you all. i only cought my hairdryer mistake right after i posted and i feel dumb now... but anyway, how involved is the cobra intake upgrade? how many of you would even go through the trouble to swap to a manual tranny? thanks for all of your replies
