New DD

so stock I ran a best of 14.6 and constant 14.9 in my 97 mark so how will a ls "Dust" that

His has a few things done and runs 15.0. The LS stock can take it.

A 14.6 stock 97 hey? Wow, thought the early Gen1s claimed that. Thats a first I heard of GenIIs VIIIs swinging it. Still any Gen II LS will do that, not just a single hand picked one.

My 97 box stock ran a 14.6 and my 98 felt a tad quicker but who knows. Never ran the 98 till I installed the blower.

Now LS8s seem to have a Ford claim of 0-60 in 6.7 but pull anywhere between 6.6 and 7.3 depending on what rag tested them. The Marks on the other hand were advertised as 7 second 0-60 yet almost every test shows a 6.5 and a couple showed 6.7 seconds. The LS8 had a top speed of 142 where as the Mark was limited to 140 on the base models. My 97 with no mods other then a Sniper tune hit 150 (GPS nav system) before the drive shaft vibration got too great.

So don't come in saying the LS is the superior sports car cause it ain't true. The LS is a performance family car for yuppies just starting a family. Thats what it was specifically designed for. The Mark was Lincolns last personal luxury Sports car. It was designed for the driver and to be a drivers car. It was designed for someone who's been there and done that and knows what class is.

I like the LS just fine and would pimp one as a DD but when some LS owners come riding in and talk like the GM LS nut swingers I get a little miffed.

Pound for pound the Mark is the better car. Mod for mod the Mark still comes out on top. I have never seen a fully modded LS that can hang with my Mark and I haven't come close to letting my motor make the power its capable of.

You go girlfriend!

I to like the LS but I will still by a TC over it
one reason is alot of LS's have been showing up online needing a motor

That's because they have Jaguar engines. Jags have never been known for their quality.

However, I've always liked the LS and I would drive one as a dd. Especially with 2 kids. The LS has 4 doors. Makes it much easier to get the kids in and out of the car seats in back.:D

I'd love to find a 3.0L V-6 with the 5-speed stick. That would be fun. I love a good straight drive! Too bad they only made the straight drive LS for 3 model years. They are few and far between.

Lots of your facts are a bit off.

0-60 I've never seen a MarkVIII listed under 7, not to say it can't. Just like the GenI LS has some real bad numbers its know for but easily is faster. GenII LSes were advertized at 6.42 if I remember right. We all know that those types are numbers are so right but thats what you seem to go by. I have botrh cars so I have a little more to go on.

As far as modding I never would go there, LSes are pretty limited what can be done as where the VIII obviously has much more posibilities.

I was at the 1/4mile with the OP and his goal was to break into the 14s, I was pointing out his new DD will do it right now.

MarkVIII chassis is weak known to rust apart and is why it was eliminated.

The LS is based on a very solid Jag plattform known to be extremely strong and was going to be used for the 05 Mustangs but only some of its design made it because the Mustang has to meet some affordable numbers to sell the numbers they want.

Handling is no where close the LS will run circles in the twisties around a Mark.

I'll stop there.

I just love it when a LS hater has to watch a fellow VIII lover make the switch.

I like my MarkVIII but the LS is in a different league.

I like Ls's and almost bought one before but I would never take one over my Mark, they're not as good looking and like you said they are very limited to what you can do to them, plus they're ghey

Okay, I guess I'm a little weird. But why do Mark VIII owners give the LS such a hard time? It's a nice car. Sure, it's not as awesome as a Mark VIII, but it's still nice. It's a good looking, understated, elegant design. It's got a fantastic chassis and it handles better than a Bimmer (according to Motor Trend, anyway). The interior is nicely appointed and the seats are very comfortable (I'm speaking from my limited experience having only test driven one 2005 V-6 auto LS). I'd drive one. I wouldn't trade my Mark for one, but I would not mind having a good LS sitting next to my Mark in the driveway. And like I said before, for me, the LS would actually be more practical because of the 4 doors. Either way, I like the LS. But I love my Mark VIII.

:p

Ya there nice cars......a real Lincoln for a old man... :D

The LS vs MarkVIII is a ongoing chain pull around here, same as the gen1vs gen2 MarkVIII rants.

OBTW nice LS OLD MAN!!! :D

Don't they come with a cane?

I don't know, the LS could be for an "older" man. Now the Town Car, that's a car for an old geezer (I must admit, I've owned 2 Town Cars in my life, and loved them both). Besides myself, I don't think I've ever seen anyone under the age of 60 driving a Town Car.:D

My brother had an '01 LS. Had a V8 in it, and ran great! However his had all kinds of little electrical demons and he wound up trading it off for an '07 Checy Avalanche (One of the sweetest rides i have ever had the privalge of driving!) That LS though would rip, and i'm willing to bet was quicker off the line than my 97 Mark VIII. I would like to have an LS, even thought of trading my Mark for one, but the Marks just look so much better...

I personally really like the Ls's and I'm willing to bet that stock vs stock the v8 LS is quicker but theres not much to build off of, just add gears to a Mark and you'll probably burn any LS, but I would probably rather have an LS as a daily driver but I have an F150 like you did and it sucks on gas

Yes the LS is in a different league. Its in the soccer mom family sedan category. The Mark is a sports luxury car.

And weak chassis? Thats a laugh LS boy. I can put a jack and lift 3/4 of my car from only under the front sub frame rail. My Corvettes were not that rigid with the exception of my FRC. My Mark can run circles around ANY LS and again all I have are a couple 1" square tubes and larger sway bars. No fancy shocks or springs, no relocated components and no tubular crap. I can pull 1.02gs continuous, no POS LS can do that.

And the only time I give the LS a hard time is when douches come paddling in in their douche canoe trying to say its the superior performance car because it simply ain't true.

And to quote JUST manufacturers claims for performance is stupid. I quoted actual test numbers, what the cars really do, not what some advertising fock thought would look cool.

lets label off what the mark introduced to the industry shall we?

-HIDs

-Puddle lamps

-self lowering suspension

thats just to name a few.

what did the ls bring to the industry?

-coil problems

-sh!tty cooling system

-horrible ride(IMO)

I have ridden in an Ls once in my life and it damned near killed me. it was a 06 Ls8 sport. buddy was driving was doing a uturn transmission slipped out of gear and then kicked back in and the car threw us into on coming traffic and we got t boned.

ROFL I am sure a gen 2 MarkVIII has coil issues and a piss poor cooling system.
Not a LS only issue.

Hey I like the VIII, I said that, I have a 96LSC. It kinda the last of the Hot Rod 2 door Lincolns which makes it cool. But to act like it is some sort of perfect car is far from reality.

The LS is what Lincoln had to do to sell some cars, nothing stays the same just like now the LS is gone. I think thats a mistake for Lincoln they were on a good track but thats a different story.

And when they first came out I was like....wtf 3.9? When I test drove one I didn't like the 4doors and tighter interior. But it didn't take long to realize its a great car after buying it for my daily drive.

Come on really? The VIII chassis sucks, thats why you've modded it as you did. Thats why many brace the piss out of it. the LS needs nothing to handle awesome.

I bought my 02 with 32k and have 100k now and never had a issue. Its been great.

I do have to admit, the stock Mark doesn't handle as well as a stock LS. Again, speaking from test driving one '05 V-6 LS. But that car handled like a go-kart. My '96 Mark handles like a big, heavy car. Lots of body roll. Lots of nose dive on braking. But nothing a stiffer set of shocks and bigger sway bars couldn't cure. But I would rather have my Mark VIII any day over an LS. But I wouldn't turn down an LS for the right price either.
