Ok, here's the scoop
Dumped 1200 into the car, new front bag, struts, rear struts, oil change, alignment, misc parts,
Tire balance, plugs, wires, fiex turn signals, restored head lamps, etc etc...
Here's the issue, the plugs I bought are autolite a104p's 2 of them didn't even screw in, replace
And all 8 are in. New wires too 8mm double core, not FMS but a good alternative anyway
Now I have a miss that wasn't there before! It was slight but more noticable during moderate
Acceleration. Now I can make it do it under heavy load.
My new development is this, a cel on the dash, had the guy at autozone pull it he tells me there are 2 codes. 1 is for the IAC overspeed error
2 is the bank 1 lean

I don't know the exact code numbers but anyone want to guess at the problem and possible fix! I am going to replace the crappy autolites with bosch platinum 4's takes the gap out of the equation
I need to get her purring again!
Thanks
Bill

1 I would never use bosh platinum 4s i use autolite coppers
2 check to make sure you have spark on all 8
3 Clean your IAC or cause you have a gen one replace it
4 lean code is a lot of the times caused by a bad o2 or vac lines
This is where I would start

now I was looking into the issues with the IAC,
Where exactly is it located? Does anyone have a picture of it in its exact location..

Thanks
Bill

I think this is chicken's pic:

i only use autolite's, but 764's are what i use, never heard of the ones you put in. are you sure you didnt cross two plug wires? check all your vacuum lines too, very easy to break them when poking around under the hood. there is one that runs near the pass valve cover that is very easy to break, without even knowing. and good luck on the IAC is a mother f-er

Opinions differ, but I have run a set of platinum 4's in my 96 Mark for the last 3 years and have no issues whatsoever=runs great, smooth, starts and runs great w/great gas mileage, and I like the idea that I should not have to change them out for many more miles/years.

As for the codes, knowing exactly what they are helps, but I would concern myself with what changed-like the spark plug wires, I know 96's are different as to how they are wired from the coil pack to the plugs-someone here pointed it out to me about 3 years ago because I owned a 93 and tried to use that diagram for my 96, but they are different-I have a factory manual now so I can look it up for you, but my guess is that you have it wrong on bank one. There is info here somewhere on what is unique to the 96, that's how I fixed my issue when I did my tune up when I first got this one.

Don't jump into doing the IAC unless you are a masochist, that is a job you want to do only if you have no choice. If something is not right with your plug wiring, that might cause your IAC to not act normally and throw a code-keep it simple first, I have to think it is something basic if it ran good before you did all this other stuff.

I am in Glenside so I am not far from you, have a good scanner and have owned marks for over 8 years now and do all my own work. My 96 has a tuner, shift kit, CAI. muffler delete, is immaculate and runs perfectly, and i also have the same color combination as you-it'd be cool to park them together for a little shoot. Let me know if I can help out

If you really want to make the IAC job easier, just remove the throttle body. Its only 4 bolts. Makes the job real easy. As far as the miss goes, make sure you didn't swap the plug wires on cylinders 5 and 6.

AP104 is the replacement plug for AP764, which is discontinued. They are both single platinum plugs.

yup my pic, iac overspeed error usually points to a vac leak or a stuck imrc, usually never the valve so that would be my last resort. make sure your plug wires arnt arching across, ive seen it with brand new wires when ran too close to each other
