hi im new to the forums but i have a 1994 lincoln mark viii i just bought 2 days ago for 800 bucks (first car_) after further inspection i realized the car may have been in an accident bc theire are signs of the airbags going off. i was wanting to know if theirs any way i could test if the ones i have actually work

you paid 800 bucks, i would not worry about your airbags, you should do other maintenance to it, any pics

don't crash again, wear your seatbelt. you'll be alright.
minus the crash, could be a fun cheap first car.

get some pics!

If the airbag light doesn't blink and you don't hear a funny chime indicating the light is out, it's probably ok.

Check to see that the light comes on for a couple seconds when you start the car. It should go off indicating that the circuit is ok.

No pics yet I'll try to post some tomorrow has some minor cosmetic issues at 160k miles. I'll check the light tomorrow does the beaping stop at all? because I don't recall any beeping except when the door is open

unhook the battery and pull the bags out then you can easily tell if they have been deployed. usually the plugs will be melted and if they are hollowed out then they have been popped

these are the pics i got from the guy b4 i bought it. i knew it was damaged previously (fender lol) just didn't think to examine airbags too much

160k is not alot for a car that had the oil changed and was taken care of. several have seen over 200k. some even more.
i can smoke the tires and do burnouts into 2nd with 186k miles.

yeah that's true. i forgot about him.
but anyway, drive train is solid if you take care of it. there are other things that are more important.

What kind of grill is that? Aftermarket or home made?

That's a good price for a nice first car. You'll enjoy owning a Mark VIII as long as you get the little common issues dealt with.

I'm not sure what kind of grille. is it not norm? I was wanting to fix it seeing how it's missing a piece

So the airbag light continues to blink when started but doesn't beep I took some pics of the car I'll post later

+1

My black Mark had over 180k on it when it was wrecked and still ran and drove like a brand new car. It could handle any kind of hard acceleration, braking, or cornering I could throw at it and was probably the best car I've ever owned. I even let it sit 3 years after the wreck, and went out to crank it one day just to see if it would and even after sitting so long and with the old gas in it, it cranked right up and still idled just as smooth as the day I parked it (actually idled smoother than my parents' '96 LSC daily driver).

Now, having said all that, it's all in how they were maintained. I've parted out Mark VIII's at 120k because they were abused (drivetrains are still good in these cars, but air suspension, interiors, and bodies are trashed- you'd be surprised at how people rag these cars out). These cars are capable of taking a decent amount of abuse, but you can't just abuse them and not do anything to take care of them or they can go down real quick.
