I have been pursuing this car for a few years. I could never get in touch with the guy who owned it. It sat in front of his grandmother's house for two years. Many months in the hot Texas sun. This is what it looked like when I first took pictures of it.

As of this month, he put it on Craigs list, and I missed it. He sold it to a lady for $1100. Last Thursday. Damn I missed it. This is not were this story ends. I see an ad on CL for someone looking for parts for a Mark, and someone to put them on the car. I am a bit curious. I have never seen an ad like this, so I call. It turns out that it's the lady that bought the 96 last Thursday. Turns out, she got hit three days later, and the car got towed to a storage lot. Now it's racking up storage fees. I went over to the lot to look at the car. Here is what it looks like now.

She got hit by an 08 Taurus that was try to overtake her and clipped her on the left side, pulled the bumper cover off, pulled the bumper brace out of it's spot welds, and damaged the the driver's fender. No damage to the hood. How does the damage look? It's a rare color, and I think would be worth of a restoration. What do you think?
 
It might be a rare color but it needs a complete pj.

You should buy it if:

You have a donor gen1
The interiour is in 8+/10
It runs well
If you can get it for <$300


If not i'd pass
 
I can actually get it for the tow bill, and the interior is that gray leather interior with now rips or tears. The car runs and drives, and the tranny was recently rebuilt. I know a lot about the car that the lady doesn't know. Besides, my restorations usually go six months anyway.
 
I like that color, would be cool to see this thing restored. Good luck with it if you get it
 
Go for it Gman, you have been chasing that car for a while and it seems to be ok besides the new damage. You guys have a lot of Gen 1s down there so parts are all over and reasonable.
 
Honestly, it looks like something that should be sitting in the junkyard. And I may be wrong but I thought the color was Rose Mist?
 
Hammer the supports on the frame flat again, then reweld it. Might take some convincing to get the other side to move back, but that looks like no sweat at all. Id totally do it for ya if I was anywhere near Texas. I say go for it!

I got a good drivers fender too if ya need one.
 
The one pic of the corner lens makes me wanna go out in the garage and bust mine out so they'll be clear and match the HID housings. If they were old, I would.

Greg, idk about that one man. I guess if you have the stuff, go for it but to me, it looks like it belongs in the JY to be raped.
 
Anything is fixable, but the amount of money you can potentially sell it for when fixed, I doubt you would break even.

I have found a couple similar cars like that locally and that is what has held me back. I dont mind working for a little, but I dont like working for free.
 
Is the title clear? Yes? Done deal. No? Well, if you plan to keep it, who gives a rats arse. My car is a rebuilt title. Did I repair it correctly? Yes. Do I care if its rebuilt title? Nope.

You could totally do this car Greg.

That looks easier than replacing a core support. Make sure you're centered from side to side, put a bubble level on it, and weld away. If it ripped the flanges off the frame, id say it would be harder to repair.... not outside the realm of possibilities, but tougher. But from what I can tell from the pics.... get a propane torch, a set of six inch hand breaks, a few dollies and a good body hammer, and that thing will be ready to reattach after cleaning up the mating surfaces. Giggity.
 
Hell; if you've got the time, go for it. Would be nice to see another one saved instead of junked.
 
You guys know I've done harder work than this. Hell, I put in an entire core support in my 97. It has a clear title, 126K miles, and the interior is clean. My offer is to pay the storage fee plus $200 which as of now is $475. I have a spare gen 1 bumper, access to a fender, gotta check my weld guy for welding the bumper, I do my own painting.

Sounds like a win win deal to me then. Id jump all over it.
 
Buy it and if the project falls apart part it out. You can easily recoup the cost in engine/tranny alone. Sell off easy body panels and odds n ends after and then junk what's left of the shell for scrap.

Of course, only after trying to fix it.
 
I dig the color, you know your skills... you'll bring it back to life :)
 
If you can get it for $250 or less go for it.
 
This I know. That is why the window is closing. The lady screwed up and let the tow truck tow it to the yard. If I don't get get it, There are others out here I have my eye on.
 
I say go for it, there aren't many oddball colored 1st gens out there anymore, i think this is a pretty cool color which combined with the right set of wheels could look awsome..honestly i think it looks worse than it really is, if you were going to paint the whole car anyway..what's the big deal in replacing the fender and bumper if you already have them..just find a decent cheap grille, and repair the bumper support, throw in a suspension kit or replace the bags, clean up the interior, find a used rear window with a decent seal and enjoy it..till you get tired of the stock look of it lol..
