bought the car in the rain, last night..thought I checked it over okay; and I guess I did..OKAY, not great; just okay
-got home from work tonight, it's slammed and down 2 quarts of oil- was not expecting the slam after sitting for about 20 hours; oh well
immediately after putting the oil in about 2 pints or so pour onto the driveway instantaneously...DAMNIT; here's underneath, PS and oil filter anatomy- I need help identifying what the arrows are pointing to

the orange circled area on the oil pan rim towards front of car is where 'most' of the leakage volume seemed to accumulate first after the entire are was wiped somewhat clean

-underneath the hood is actually quite clean compared to my other 96 from up north
-obviously some shade tree goober (worse than me) did the plug wires....hideousness

fuel rails are nice and shiny clean, much more than my other one..and yes, def a '96! finally found my IMRC's...just had buy a car to go with 'em!

the color is hard to read at night; illuminated by a flash and an incandescent drop light

Oil leak is oil filter housing gasket...common problem less then $20 gasket and $20 in coolant as it will drain yout cooling system...bleed cooling system correctly
 
Red Arrow- Not sure
Blue Arrow- Oil filter drain plug? Oil pressure check plug?
Pink Arrow- Oil pressure sensor

If it's leaking that bad, it may the the oil filter adapter gasket. Have somebody poor the oil in for you while you look underneath. The dreaded 96 IMRC's, oh no!

thanks...drop K-frame? pull PS pump?:eek: I know there are many many write ups on this job; I read Diesel Dan's earlier today

I put a socket on the oil pan bolts in that area, they didn't seem to tighten, but I sat under there with it running for about 5 minutes...it held oil okay (better at least)...at that time
 
yesterday it was warm enough to check the AC...it works...but the heat ain't a-heating...NONE...also, sometimes with it idling in PARK, with no accessories ON, there's a noise under the dash that sounds like tired old windshield wipers smacking to/fro....eventually after driving it goes away
 
Oil filter adapter gasket is about $7, add a jug of coolant and oil change goodies and that will be the end of that problem. Might want to consider replacing the oil presure switch($5) at the same time. P.s.You don't drop the k-frame to do the ofag. That's only for the oil pan.

Did you remove the coolant xover cap? Cause I don't see one.

You've no heat + something in the dash sounds broken. ...

Not to go off topic, but my driver's side motor mount is either broken or stripped cause the motor comes up. I looked at it and it looks like a PITA to change.

Have any of you ever changed one of these and can offer some advice?

I have changed one, with the motor out. I am sure they are difficult to get to, with the motor in and all the accessories in the way. They have 3 bolts I believe holding them to the block, and one going through the k member of course. Dropping the k-member I think would help, but not to sure.

I paid and helped someone do that awhile back; it is supposed to be a 3 hour job; it took him about 7; many of the aftermarket replacement mounts (AZ, etc) sell a pass. side mount w/ a center bolt that is about 1/4" too long, and prevents the sub/K frame from bolting back up correctly; after grinding it down some, it all went back together...2-3 hours wasted fighting it
 
Do I hear correctly?

a)replace just oil filter adapter/housing gasket:
don't drop K-frame or remove PS pump?

b)replace oil filter adapter gasket and oil pan gasket:
remove PS pump and drop K-frame?

I think there will be differing opinions on this
 
Remove the oil filter, remove the bolts holding the adapter on, slide the old gasket out and the new one in. It does not require removal of much else, just be prepared to get dirty.

****... I think I have the same problem.
I thought it was the oil pressure sender but it wasn't. My next option was exactly this, the oil filter housing.
 
DO NOT DROP THE K MEMBER TO CHANGE THE OIL FILTER ADAPTER GASKET, remove the left front wheel, and remove the inner fender. There it is all four bolts accessible with a u joint and a few extensions. 30-45 min job if you know which way to turn a wrech. A k-member drop is only needed for the oil pan.

gasket

Just got a gasket from Rock=$4.30 Dealer=$18.99 Spark plug wires overweight. I had a set do that once. Intake mod is worth the time I notice the difference

That noise is your blend door actuator motor behind the dash trying to move the blend door.

There could be two things wrong:

1. The smaller of the two plastic gears inside the motor itself has sheared off teeth. These actuators are not sold new anymore so you would have to find a used one somewhere. The procedure is similar to the Gen II walkthrough, just a bit different.

2. The square shaped white plastic arm that turns the blend door has rounded off the hole that it mounts into. That can be fixed but requires removing the dash.
 
Thanks BRAH; I'm stoked..it will be a lot easier learning to do repairs on a back-up ride...repairing the daily driver is always a pressure deal...oil leak, shocks, and then heat are the big deal(s) to get it driveable....a/c and heat are not that big of a deal here in Ga
