Missing Linc.....oln

Bill, was the guy who bought your car named Cleveland or Jesse? From Austin? If so, he is part of that Slab Drifta crew up there. If they are the ones, that car will eventually get used and abused. This is what his last Mark ended up looking like.

Pretty Sure K-Fan bought that car GMAN

Bill, sorry to hear you had to let that grey one go, I miss that car too.... But I'm glad you got some spare change now and some options. Don't be a stranger to the board, your a good dude and a wealth of knowledge

Well I picked up the Regal. Kinda pissed off about it cause people are so fuggin stupid.

Dude says AC works. It does not. He says "it blows just not cold"
He said the trunk had a dent and he had it fixed. Car is white.... trunk lid is black.
He said the interior was nice. As long as the seat covers are on you cant see the tears. Interior is a 5 out of 10.
He said stereo works great. Neglected to mention all 8 speakers are blown.
He said everything works inside. Except the broken drivers door regulator and the center rear view mirror. (its lights stay on cause the switch is broken plus the mirror is too milky to see out of)
He says car is legal and can pass inspection. Windshield is broken with the crack going across line of sight.
Drivers mirror is also usless. Its black, prolly cause a failed heating element.

I was gonna walk away but Sapperfire gave me the look of "I am gonna kill you" so I bought it so we dont have to drive around any place else.

I talked him down to 1700 just because the car runs absolutly perfect. Engine is amazingly clean but not "washed" clean. Looked inside the forward valve cover and the inside of that head looks very clean. Trans shifts perfect. All ball joints are quiet. Shocks work great. Brake pedal is firm and there is no pulling or grinding, pads seem to have a lot of meat.
Car is deciently quick, I can pull a car on Sapperfires Mark doing a 50-90 pull. :D

So its a solid runner that isnt very pretty. I will order all the new parts today or tomorrow. Gotta go get some more r134 since the system sucked the whole 12oz can and still shows no pressure in the system. When filling it the system sounded like it was leaking up front but using my leak detection light I couldnt see a leak anywhere. I hope that sound was just the refridgerent filling the system and pressurizing the lines. Car was missing the AC line caps so I can only assume thats where it leaked from.

Gotta get some duplicolor spray cans and paint the trunk lid cause it looks ghetto.

You will want to check and see if the intake gasket has been changed...

Look in the oil fill and see if the gasket is black (plastic) or silver (steel). You should be able to see it easily as the intake/head setup is similar to ford's old FE...

If it has the plastic gaskets, they are junk. Get the upgraded steel gasket set before it begins pissing coolant on the camshaft...

Ban him for buying a gmt pos. Only Ford junk allowed here. Jk sounds like you could have done a lot better on a mark

Doubtfull.

AC charge/return line is bad would be my guess. Have one on the way.

Ill get pics latter.

The SC cars dont seemto have the intake leak issue the NA cars have. I see no signs of it leaking.

My buddies 2000 bonnie with the 3.8 supercharged engine I had to do all the intake gaskets. Had 170K plus I think. Also he went thru a trans in it too. It was never locking up in OD or something. He had pulley,CAI and could burn the front tires good but only went 15's at track. He thought it would run 12's that was a shock for him. (cuz it was so dam fast)lol

the lower manifold to head is an issue on both 3.8sc and 3.8L

they both use a plastic molded gasket with crummy torque specs from the factory

the big problem with the 3.8L n/a is the plastic upper plenum....the egr circulates through plenum and melts away and coolant leaks into and engine sucks it up hydrolocking in some cases

but the big question....whats the game plan after this little bit of cash is used up? you will be in same boat...broke, liquidating even less valuable stuff....

i understand you have a hernia...as do i....but it doesnt prevent me from working i just know my limits...ive changed my diet, lost a bit of weight and it affects me even less i work 10hrs a day as a mechanic...engines trans whatever...im just careful

i know its not my business in any way shape or form, but you post alot of this in a public forum and it just really leaves me wondering

really bothers me watching someone suffer and having to sell there prides and joys...and after all the valuable stuff is gone where are you gonna be

Marks are in your blood. You will get tired of that, and just like a junkie on heroin start to get the itch of wanting to do some improvements. Been there done that. Spent over $10,000 on a 1984 Regal buildup. Then sold it and said no more cars. Sold my tools and everything else. Now look at me. Bought all new equipment, wrenchen on another adventure. Gotta love it though.

damn laser... im sorry to hear man. hopefully you got some good pics of it.

I could have loaned my car to you till you had a better deal.

Car wasnt such a bad deal after all. Had some good luck today for some reason.
AC turned out that the guy installed a new compressor and neglected to put o-rings in it. Dumbass. Easy fix and it held vac for 15 minutes, blows ice cold now.
Then I went to Dallas to get a newish trunk lid that was supposed to be $75. The Messican guy had a brain fart and charged me $18. :D
Then I went to order the window regulator and mirrors and turns out it was the same place selling all three parts and they were having a 1 hour sale. Regulator with a motor, all new, was $22. Mirror was $8 for the outside one and $18 for the inside one.

Car kicked back a solid 28 MPG all day today and I was abusive to it. Was getting a solid 31 on the highway doing 75. Ran great, shifted great and drives well.

Its no Mark VIII but its comfertable enough and its fun to pass cars or merge.

Should be a good beater for the next few months.

So where are the pics:p

I have heard really good things about the 3.8 L, hope it treats you well.

Well that's good to hear things turned around!

And yes, I agree with the others, lets see some damn pictures! The GM tech in me wants to see this thing, lol.
