First of all this isnt a bragging thread...but i was out doing some things this morning when i pulled up behind a red GTO. Looked like a stock 2004 with the 5.7L which makes what about 350hp??

Anyways it was going a bit slow so i put my signal, floor the car a bit and merge right to pass it and get in front. Immediately it changes to the right lane and we both cruise up to a stop light.

Next we all know what happens. I say what the hell and gun it as does the GTO. We both launch off the line, it takes off first and stays about one car length ahead of me untill my car shifts into second and i start pulling all the way through 4th gear and i see the GTO behind me.

Dont know if the driver just let off early but didnt seem like it. I thought for sure i was gonna get left in the dust....it might been auto i guess. I also forgot to turn off advancetrac.

anybody run with one of these??

Actually yes. Have a friend with a 2004 5.7 manual. In stock form the LS1 in those those run mid 13's and do have 350hp. My guess is that guy left off/didn't know how to drive

We fooled around once and it's safe to say it makes the LS look like what it is. A four door lincoln which isn't a sports car.

He had to have let off cause I test drove a stock 2005 GTO 5.7L 6 speed manual about a month ago. and being used to driving the LS the GTO actually scared me a little it was so fast!!

I think all 2005's moved from the 5.7/6.0 option to only 6.0's..... but i could be wrong.

Either way he had to be messing with you :p

Yeah i know they are very quick and a real sports car. I guess the person didnt know how to drive.

Example A...

Now I see why u get 14.2 mpg in town. Stop treating that thing like a race car. LOL.

Man even driving regular i barely see 17mpg.

The fuel down here is laced with that ethanol crap.

But yeah i know that GTO could have took me easily.

+1 on the spray. Seriously considering nos now that my heads have been worked and a fresh 5 angle valve job. Probably would rarely use it but it is truly a want on my priority list.

Just saying, my brother owned an '04 with the 5.7 6 speed. That thing could really throw ya back in the seat. Besides the center stack the interior was beautiful as well! Red on black.

My girlfriend has the 06 GTO with the LS2 in it...

That thing is insane. The car weighs nothing and has a 6.0 in it, can kick some ass. Too bad they're ugly as sin.

EDIT: It is soon for sale, if anyone in/around OK is interested!

I know the 6.0's are even faster than the 5.7's...just like the R/T charger vs the SRT8.

Too fast for her?

How much??

Back in the day Hemi Road Runners worked well

all motor no weight (to speak of)

Beep Beep :)

She wants to start @ 11k, but I'm thinking 10 range is more reasonable. It has 90K miles.

She wants to get rid of it, because the guy who works on it has trouble finding parts and charges her an assload anytime she needs work done to it. And the thing isn't exactly the most gas friendly. She is moving to a 2012 maxima.

It has flowmasters already on it, so if that is your thing. IMO it is way too loud.

Thats a good price.

Parts for that are cheap as hell and plentiful...the guy must be shady. Thats a big move from a rwd V8 to a fwd 6 banger. Maximas are nice though i wouldint mind one as a second vehicle. Id prefer an infiniti though.

Theres no way a GTO cost more to maintain than an LS. that engine alone is reliable as hell.

Yea she takes it to "her friend's dad" who owns a shop.

AKA easy way for a shop to make money off a 21 year old girl who drives a GTO from mommy and daddy.

In the UK you can get a rebadged GTO (vauxhall monaro) with a supercharged 3.8L V6 and a 6 speed manual.

Accurate portrayal of the OP situation:
