So...
I have a 2004 LSV8 I bought used as a Hertz sell off from Hawaii, so maybe more abuse than normal for miles, 14,000.
I had that common intermittant harsh shifting problem which I didn't really notice during the test drive.
Minor tranny rebuild under satisfaction program at about 15,000.
Replaced pinion seal, warranty.
Serviced rack and pinion steering under TSB.
Replaced seat back, warranty. Need another replaced, out of warranty.
Replaced grill, peeling chrome. Warranty.
Replaced coils due to all too common coil issues. Warranty.
Replaced Advance track face plate. Button pushed in and disappeared in console. Warranty.
Repaired Advance track intermittant. Warranty.
Replaced wheel bearing. Warranty. Probably need another. What is it with these wheel bearings???
Repaired head liner. warranty and some sticky tape.
Replaced brakes at about 30,000 and 40,000 miles. Awful short brake life.
I now have about 72,000 miles of daily commute type driving. I probably need another wheel bearing. The Antenna cable appears to have a short in it since when I bang the headliner or wiggle the antenna cable at the rear window, it pops and sputters. Driving it also comes in and out.
Sunroof rattles, even though I metioned it while under warranty. "No problem found". Still rattles.
I am an American car fan and usually sing the praises of them. I have had 5 Fords, 2 Chebbies, 1 Dodge, 2/1 Datsun/Nissans, a Pontiac. Of the 5 Fords, the last two, SHO and LS almost convince me not to buy another Ford. But, these two would be considered "exotic", ie non standard engine and drive trains, so I'll chalk it down to NEVER buy anything that does not have a normal high production drive train.
Just my opinion,
