Lincoln got smashed

... check your springs when you get back to work. :shifty: :D

Airbags, not leaf spring suspension.

Heh heh... I'm just getting it put back like it was although I am going to fork over some of my own money to get a few other paint spots fixed seeing as it'll be in the shop anway.

Forgot to add, any leaf spring can do this so anyone here with a leaf sprung truck, it would be worthwhile to give the 'ol leafs a once over on a regular basis. You don't want to be that guy.

Glad to read that no one was hurt. Very lucky.

Its the drivers responsiblity to do pre and post trip inspections of our trucks as mandated by U.S.DOT. Every log book has a post trip inspection list that is to be filled out daily. Leaf springs are included on the list.

Granted a cracked or broken leaf spring can be hard to spot by a simple visual inspection.

I had leaf springs on the front steers on my old 2001 International,
was always looking at those for cracks and the U clamps.

My latest truck is all Air Ride ... our trailers are mostly air bags but yeah, after reading
this, "it's on like Donkey Kong" ~ Uncle Si Robertson, Beaver Commander from Duck Dynasty.

Stress cracks are indeed difficult to spot with so many leafs tightly bunched together.

But let's not make this about the truckers on this forum's faults, please and thank you!

Yeah that. About 20% of the cars or trucks I tore apart over the years had busted springs in the pack. What really surprises me is that he hit a bump hard enough to shuck a spring but didn't break the trailers back...

Here are the movies I took. One of them is pretty short as at the time the camera's memory was pretty loaded down. These are movies so click on the pic.

YIKES!!!!! That could have been sooooooo much worse! Thankful no one was hurt!

yes, very scary, about six inches higher up and it would have come through the windshield on the passenger side.
I feel bad but there isn't much I personally myself can do other then properly check my own equipment daily,
which I do as required, and that's not just for others safety around me but as well my very own safety.

Can't help but feel the guilt.

Man you ain't kidding. Literally one foot higher and it would have killed both my parents.

Bigrig, never was dinging you or commercial drivers in general, just a reminder to everyone. Pickup truck and SUV leaf springs are just as dangerous and aren't checked like commercial vehicles are supposed to be. When we determined that the truck's leaf spring was what caused the damage you shoulda seen the truck driver's face. I thought he was gonna stroke out on the spot for a minute. He said that the trailer had actually just come out of some annual checkover that day and he was going to have some words with the safety inspection manager over it.

Tractors and Trailers both have yellow tags on them with date codes punched out of them, they are called anual inspection stickers and we are required to verify they are present and that they are within their dates, if they are past their due dates, they are not to be used and either the tractor or the trailers are to be reported out of service.

Large fines for riding around with equipment with past due anual inspection stickers.

Hope everthing and everyone involved turns out ok in the long run.

I was send to our head office today after work to bring mine up which is due for a grease and lube, plus some small things related to A/C and heat, fuse panel cover keeps popping open and a new drivers seat belt plus a marker light out and a fog/drive light out.

I was to bring a loaner back which was an older Kenworth 900 and it needed a good going over in the near dark from me before I put it in gear. had no turn signals for a bit until I worked the signal lever back and forth for 15min. ran like a trooper on the way home though but was sloppy handeling. yet intermediate steering shaft play was within tolerance.

@Rollin;
still going strong here, loading 14K tomorrow for east coast, they may look on the boards for more to fill it with,
spread is into second week of next month.

Update, everything is approved and parts have been ordered. Just had to get the insurance company to approve blending the hood, for some reason the initial appraiser said that the hood didn't need blending when they are replacing a fender. Don't get that. Anyway, once the parts come in they'll get to work.

I have to have my equipment inspected every 4 months.

Fantastic. Great news. :)

I went down yesterday to pick the Lincoln up,and it looks way better than it did. In addition to the repair work, all the little chips in the hood are gone and the missing paint on the passenger rear quarter was fixed. Unfortunately I couldn't swing an entire paint job as it would have added 3500 bucks to the job and I wasn't about to do that on a car I'm selling next year. The only things I didn't like about the work done was I had regular pinstriping put on, without the Lincoln emblem but now it looks like I'll have to do it because on the driver's door they couldn't get all the emblem out. If a pro painter couldn't do it I can't do it, so will have to pick up the kit and install it. I just thought it would look better without, but now I have no choice on it. The other thing is the new HID housing makes the old one look like a turd, and now the car doesn't look right. It won't be looking right anytime soon either, as my daughter had to have her headlight replaced last year after a hit and run hit her car one night. The replaced housing on her car still looks brand new. I'll see if I can't clean it up some, but if I can't I'll have to replace it to make it look right. If that happens I may have a driver's side HID up for sale. The unit looks fine and it looked fine before the accident, it just looks bad when installed next to a new housing.

Man oh man though, it sure was nice to trade that crackerbox back for the Lincoln and I'm definitely rethinking whether I want to replace the Lincoln with a Charger now. I wish it had a larger driver's area, or perhaps a bench seat. If it did, I'd just keep it and do a proper LSx swap on the car.

I'll get pics up eventually, but it won't be fast. Been working a lot of overtime lately, so I'm at work from sunup to sundown.

Cool story Bro, now go make us some sandwiches!

Just kidding, glad to hear, you picked it up from repairs, hope your pin-striping match works out. You should be able to clean that opposite headlight out nicely. no sense spending large dollars on a car you may separate with soon.

all the best and good luck.
Glad it all ended well, sorta speak.
