Found these lightweight rims for my sled... 17 lbs.:eek: in 18 x 7.5

1010tires says they will fit with a 38 offset

never ran these on my SRT-4 but alot of guys from the SRT forums rave about them... most of them putting down 400+ whp... just like me
 
7.5" wide is a small footprint. depends want you want to do with them - but if you care about weight, then I guess you may be racing, I would want to go wide as possible.
 
TSW's will come in wider sizes and are very light!

Durable to!
 
Hope the 19x8.5 size will be a good racing width.....I completely forgot wider will assist in racing performance :P
 
how much of a differnce does a chrome wheel make then lets say like a aluiminum alloy wheel (not talking about big 22" soild pieces of chrome you see once in a while)

chrome wheel is just a finish. Chrome is like paint.....hense why ANYTHING can be chrome


Forged is a lighter weight than an alloy wheel due to how it's made (Forged being compressed metals vs Alloy which is a blend of metals)

oo alright so high proformance wheels just mean they are made differently i always thought that chrome would slow a car down thanks pete
 
NP, I had to learn when researching wheels.....that's why Forged wheels are more pricey......
 
mine weigh about 15 lbs i think 18 x 8. you can tell the difference in braking and in acceleration. i love em

all of you racing types should consider some other things.... wider isnt always better!

285's on a set of 20's will have a very short sidewall. So a set of 255's on 16's with more sidewall to flex will grab the track better. If you install a locker or LSD in the rear than you 505mm of rubber grabbing with roughly 140mm of sidewall. That may friends is what you want. LOTS of sidewall flex with as much width as you can get without sacrificing sidewall.

As for light wieght rims that allow such things.... the stock 16" 7 spoke is 7.5" wide and light as hell.


The next drag racing urban legend I'll debunk for ya is he burn out.


Most people lower the tire pressure before racing. They then get up to the line and do a burnout from hell. I guess these people failed physics. When you heat up your tires like that, you raise the pressure back up and loose the flex in the tires you would have had from the lower pressure. You want to do enough of a burnout to heat up the rubber but nothing more! 3-4 seconds total is all it should take. Your'e pressure will go up some, but you can figure that in too. If you want 12 on the starting line, have 10 or 11psi in the staging lanes. Then when you heat them up a little bit they will creep up to the desired 12 or maybe 13.... still nowhere near the 32-40 you'd have on the street.


Other pet peeves of mine that just prove how dumb people are:
-Driving around on your track tires
-running multiple times with no cool down just for the sake of running
-taking things out of their car for weight but using big heavy wheels

Actually, according to Tire Rack your wheels weigh 19.1 pounds


And for the other guys, with a power challenged car like the LS, every pound of unsprung weight that is reduced is beneficial:

better acceleration

more nimble handling

superior braking

the only downside to the equation is road noise and possible wheel integrity over the course of it's service life... but with a well manufactured design like the Enkei's, it shouldn't be a factor

and to the fact that it's not that wide and therefore can't put as much rubber down as a wider rim, the LS doesn't have that much tq. , so spinning tires is a mute point

just by putting a 2.6 lb. lighter rim on the drive wheels of my SRT4, I went from 403 whp/ 438 wtq. to 409 whp/ 449 wtq. on the dyno, with no other changes to the car

if you don't believe about this rotational mass thing, just call up your old high school Physics teacher and ask them... if they're still alive for some of you

I'll agree that people need to learn more about the physics. I'll argue about the LS being power challenged. It has been proven numerous times that these cars can be modified just as well as any other car out there. And frankly, I'd love to see your SRT move 3800lbs as well these move! I dont mean to call you out, just using your car as an example. Evo's, WRX's, SS cobalts, all are considered in some circles to be more powerful cars. They simply couldnt move this weight like the 3.9 does. But yes rotational weight is key. FAR more of a difference than sprung weight.


I also want to amend one of my previous statements about grabbing the track. Sidewall flex is great for launching in a straight line..... the LACK of flex is what you want for handling and grabbing corners. Tires and wheels can make the difference between a car that is decent and a car that truely performs!
 
Sully, please provide this proof that this car is capable of gaining more power with more mods than what are offered with the exhaust, intake and tune.

All I see are FI kits that ran but no one ever showed the proof that they are capable of handling the potential power they were designed for.

Nitrous is a given, but not everyone likes to resort to the bottle just to have a fast car. Most people that I know of like to utilize what they can without spraying.

All the FI. I have still yet to see them run to potential. They all sold the kits before they proved they could work. You could put a turbo on any car and run it, but utilize what its designed for and its a different story.

I believe in Quick's SC, but he knows a lot on how to make it work and put a lot into that car R&R and time wise.

cams have been done, fuel systems, ignition systems, rear ends, tranny builds, roll cages etc.

What more would anyone want? Someone posting numbers, someone providing a clip anything proving that the car is capable of the boost! So far all we saw were cars idling or cruising. Strapp has credit he showed a good clip, other than that nothing. Its funny how people get so offensive and say it works when yet everyone even the original person to bolt on a turbo sold the kits without showing us the cars can handle it.:rolleyes: ;)

Also as I said, I do believe in Quicks SC.

Its a "pointless debate" either way till someone mans up and shows off how great of a job they did!
 
Im sure if you sat down with quick, Ills, or shiloh they will be more than happy to explain how the cars can handle it.

and the bottom line is when you build a car that is almost 100% custom work, you have to step out of the proven 1000 times over realm!
