I did this mod about a month ago and really like it. I used a MAF adapter from Jeg's for $20, it was a very beautiful piece and even came with nylon lock nuts and bolts. I used a 10 inch Spectre filter from the Zone. The hardest part of the mod was removing the snorkel/silencer. Easy way to do it is to push the studs down out of the holes and use a large pry bar to pry back against the snorkel using the lip as a fulcrum.
I used a jig saw to make short work of the cutting of the air box. I think I cut a little too much out of the top of the air box. I think it will still keep out most of the under hood heat from getting to the filter because it gets tons of fresh cool air from behind the head light. It definitely sounds a lot meaner and seems to pull a little harder. Could be a placebo effect. I'll let the pics do the talking.
This is the MAF adapter held up in front of the MAF attached to the air horn inside the air box.
The MAF removed from the airhorn inside the airbox.
This is the MAF adapter attached to the MAF sensor.
MAF and adapter ready to be installed into the intake tube. The Spectre filter comes with rubber rings to accomodate 3,3.5, and 4 inch filters.
This is the bottom of the air box.
The front of the air filter and airbox.
The rear view of the airbox cutout. I think I got a little too excited with the jig saw.
