Ever experience this? The Fuel Economy key stopped working today. Doesn't beep when you press it. Every other key still functions. Any fixes or is it off to the for sale section for a new unit?

Fairly common problem on the 1st gen's. I've had several that had that problem on various buttons, usually the ones that don't get used much. You can try pushing the fuel economy button several times, sometimes this works, but not always. If you end up needing one let me know, i have several ones in various colors.

Happened to my '96. On the back of the button, under the cover, there is a tiny extension about the width of a toothpick and 1/3 as long that pushes the little momentary switch that operates the message display. That little extension breaks off after years of use. I tried supergluing it back but it won't hold. I ended up getting another set of buttons off fleabay that worked fine.

I have this problem. If you hear the click but it doesn't operate(beep sound and change status) it is most likely a bad board. Like chargerxr said you can press it a few times in the hopes it might work which works for me. I think the problem is the solder or the actually button that gets messed up from the heat of the light bulb(or maybe it's just use) because mine is also the economy button that doesn't work. Easiest thing is living with it or buy a used one.

I think the board's fine, something physically broke underneath the key. With the car off and depressing other buttons there's that clicking noise of it making contact with something. The broken key goes straight down and doesn't make any physical clicking noise.

Lift up on the key, should pop right out..then you can replace

I guess I'll either live with it or if someone has a tan/saddle (Are they the same color for this car?) colored replacement for cheap I'll buy it. I don't know how it is for everyone else but that computer's fuel economy is never very accurate. It's usually off by about 1.5-2MPG.
