I am going to install a new aftermarket HU - a Kenwood eXcelon DNX9980HD.

I got the dash vents and shifter console out, removed old stereo etc.

I want to remove the glove box compartment for access and to install a couple in-dash panel mounted jacks: one for USB and another mini-stereo jack inside there... also route the iPod cable there, and install the GPS antenna and Sirius antenna above there etc.

I have looked on the site, I can't find any instructions or photos for removing the glove box in a 2002 (no CD changer in there). I have been in the car looking at it, and I don't want to force the hinge stops (they aren't coming out when pressing them in or out). Some screws heads are hard to access while the door is still attached etc.

Anyone have a link with pics or instructions?
I found the link for the Gen2, but not for Gen1. Thanks!

Thank you Joegr!

Back out to the garage...

Stuck on steps 2 & 3, can't find them.

Under the passenger side of the dash. Look up. You can't miss them. This is to remove the floor heat duct for the front passenger.

Got em, glad I had a puller tool. Thanks! Working on step 4... can't really see it, but I can feel it... just got to figure out how to unhook it now.

sweet! once your done with your install, and figured out all the connectors, ill buy one and we can do mine. :D

Glove box removed. Thanks again Joegr.

1st dash pad I've seen.... No replacement dash out there?
It's a real "DashMat" brand (a Christmas gift) ... Arizona heat causes car dashes to crack.
(The white dot in the Flag is a reflection in the camera lense).
My dash is not cracked, looks perfect, hoping the dashmat helps keep it that way.

Sounds like a plan. At least I could help remotely if not in person!

Someone has been in behind the center dash before. One clip is missing/broken off the top vent, and the buttons on that vent where they were screwed on originally have been glued on... that came apart/off too... guess I have some repair work to do on those buttons. Don't know about fixing the one vent plastic latch...

I hate that. I had my alarmed installed and when i tried to take apart my consule, there were mis matched screws and some sort of jb weld holding some parts! had a bit of repair to do

The car is driveable as is with everything removed.

Now I can start doing the wiring harness and solder/heat shrink and run some wires, MIC, Voice Control button, GPS antenna, steering wheel control, 5v regulator, parking brake bypass etc.

Still waiting on some parts: SCC1 Sirius controller & cable, splitter for subs, and USB & Mini-stereo in-dash jacks.

With all of this out of the car, now I know what I am dealing with. I can look for places to put the antenna's, where to put the USB & stereo jacks etc. In another thread someone mentioned the antenna(s) fit above the glovebox, someone else mentioned tucking wires was easier with the glovebox out etc... hence the removal.

Done for the night.

Thats the fix for the buttons is glue.

Try and buy the part from ford and see how much it costs.

It's made for the LS, it's cut out for the airbag (see cutout slot above the flag).

Glad to see this all finally coming together. You are going to love the Kenwood and all it's creature features

I am still waiting on some more parts... made some progress though.

Ran the GPS wire per this thread:
http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showpost.php?p=554041&postcount=8

Using a butter knife I got that panel loose enough (but not completely off, as it was still attached somehow on each corner near the A Pillars). I was able to put the small GPS antenna under this panel in the center below the red circle as mention in the thread above. Someone else in that thread asked how the wire was ran... I ran the wire following the red line to the passenger side under that panel and down to the side access panel then into the dash.

Got the MIC and Voice Control wires ran on each side of the steering wheel.

Still looking at where to put the Sirius SCC1 tuner and it's larger antenna (looks like the GPS antenna but it's larger)... it won't fit under the dash panel in the center like the other one... or at least they both won't fit there together.

If I could get that front window center panel completely off, I may put it there on top with the wire coming from the window back to it.

You could attach the sirius antenna up high near the rear view mirror and run the wire under the headliner and down the A-pillar.

Was thinking of that... just haven't searched yet enough to find the process to remove the A-Pillar.
Maybe it will just tuck under the headliner and A-Pillar without removal?
http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?p=817376#post817376
Just need to look more...

Edit: Got the A-pillar removed... pull weather strip off the side near A-pillar, there is a latch at the top and 1/3 of the way down from the top on the pillar, just pull. Two tab inserts at the bottom. It just pulls off. Sirius antenna wire ran to rearview mirror area (wire tucks under headliner without needing to remove it).

Now to find a spot for the Sirius tuner box...

Sirius SC-C1 (SCC1) Tuner mounted on top of glovebox with industrial velcro.
(There is some metal framing with a cut out that is the perfect size above the glovebox).

Got the passenger side C-Pillar pulled out to find the retained accessory power (RAP) wire... I see a black bundled taped up wire harness.

Do I open that up/un-tape it, and find what color wire in there for the RAP?
(I've read many threads, it was mentioned more than once that the RAP wire is located there, but not specifically what the wire color was or where it's at other than in the passenger C-Pillar).

I went out to the garage and snapped a few pics so you can have a reference point to use for comparison.

**Note: I too have a Kenwood head unit and to get the amount of echo to reduce from the area behind the side pillar, required my installer not make the microphone flush. Otherwise, people I spoke to said there was too much echo.

Thanks for the pics and echo warning... guess I should test it and ensure good sound before securing the mic... based on what you've said I may have to relocate it. So, that's good to know before I close everything up.

Ldm, please forgive the grammatical errors in my original post. I can clearly see that a proofread was due. LOL.
