Is the First Gen Boost Friendly???

I almost won an auction on EBAY for a LMS modded intake tube. It was being sold by a guy who had a Mark engine in a Cougar. He was selling the stuff cause he was doing what was I think the initial KB B head blower setup?

I wish I still had his URL but that was a PC ago and I lost all my bookmarks :mad:

There's a guy with a 4v swapped Cougar running a KB on B heads... I used to have his site bookmarked but seem to have lost it. He's on SCCOA but I can't remember his screenname.
 
The KB for B heads is not intercooled and runs HOT. You definately need meth injection with that kit.
 
It's not a HUGE power maker... but if you want a little horse power bump that will make you :D I'd do it....
 
My buddy is in the process off doing a KB b-head swap right now. Nothing insane on the boost though. Only about 10 LBS on a lowered compression motor. He is only aiming for low 400's at the wheels.


Just a nice fun daily driver.
 
I am mikes buddy doing the kb. I have a kb 2.2 running 14 pounds on a 9.5 to 1 forged bottom end with stock b heads and custom cams. It isn't finished yet and hasn't been dyno'd but is supposed to be 450 rwhp or better. I also have a retrofitted 4r75w built tranny. BC auto did the tranny and is building my motor. Between Darrin and Lonnie at Blue oval chips I am very happy so far and definetly recomend them. But anyway to answer your question.


Throw a kenne bell kit on your stock motor and you should get about 135HP/ +123 ft lbs. torque (108HP / 98ft lbs rear wheel @ 7 psi) and be totally safe. According to kb. Im not sure if the tuner chip that comes with their package would work on the mark or not. I have one since they don't separate their kits(I have a second gen and had to get an x cal) if you could find a 1.7, 2.1, or 2.2 used.
 
I think the guy with the mark motored cougar with that 2.2 kb, Blew his stock bottom end up.
 
I see going with the "C" heads as you then can go Intercooled and pick up all that additional horsepower, and you can run higher compression and more aggressive spark. I am also not running dished pistons, or exotic cams, and use 94 octane (Sunoco). Running "C" heads also gives you the opportunity to go to Coil On Plugs so that you can clean your engine compartment up (I chose not to as there was some thought of going to a different system down line). I am currently running 14lbs boost, with plenty more left with just a pulley change (20 lbs available). Hope this helps.
 
Roadboss............ you don't need C heads to go COP ignition. Just the COP cam covers, and ignition hardware.
 
yea im cop but i have a second gen with the stock b heads. I considered the c heads, but i wanted everything to be as stock as possible and i just didn't have the money to offset the cost. The built short block that i have is going to be able to handle anything just in case i go c heads at a later date. I didn't have any of the c head stuff so for me the extra 4500-5000 just didn't add up for no more than what i wanted to do. I just want to have a real fun street car plus im slowing down in my old age. lol I just have to many toys.

Can the KB setup work with the 93-95 ignition system?...I'm asking this because COP is too expensive to replace as they go out too fast

Yeah my trunk is a bit full of junk you might say? On top of seeing the TO4 Turbo you can see a bit of ADDCO CRX sway bar and the chrome is Harley Spostster pipes. Then a Titanium crow bar and a new engine mount that I ain't bothered to put in yet. Among a ton of other crap that is most likely lowering my MPG as all the extra weight I am taking with me... :rolleyes:
