Just bought a ls this past week and i was looking to purchase a new set of headlights because the ones on there now are fogged up. I was looking on ebay and this one set i found specified sport package or with out sport package. How can I know if my ls is with sport package or not. thanks.

btw i searched for a while before i posted. im no noob to forums just noob to lincolns. thanks again.

I didn't think that that made a difference. The only difference that I'm aware of is the Gen 2 headlights are a little bigger than Gen 1. I think all Gen 1 headlights are the same. First things first, what year is your LS?

Im not completely sure but i belive if it has the sport package it will not have any chrome trim on the bumpers (whereas the non sport does), 17 inch silver wheels, and it will have an automatic with the SST option for shifting

Correct. Chrome on bumpers = non sport model and no chrome on bumpers = sport model. Now one thing though people take different wheels and bumpers and swap them out. So sometimes it can be misleading. Another way to tell is if you have the leather wrapped steering wheel and shift nob then you have the sport. If you have the wood on the steering wheel and wood grain shifter, then you have the non sport. Those are the things to check both inside and outside of the car.

I got a 2000 v8 sport it has chrome bumpers. I ran the vin so it is a sport and it came stock with the 16s. If u go to lincolns site and go to the parts section and enter the vin it will tell u if it's a sport or not. Also my uncle purchased new from ford and he did nothing to it and then sold it to my mom and she did nothig as well and I just recently bought it from her so chrome bumpers isn't always a rule of thumb to follow.

correct - chrome on bumpers - it is not a sport. Either a base or a Premium model.

The confusion come that you can add a sport package (suspension and wheels) to the Premium model.

I only matter in the bumper running lenses - there are different with or without having to fit in with a bumper that has the chrome trim.

Thanks for all this info. it helps alot. i have the 01 v8. chrome on the bumper but 16 inch wheels. wood grain on the steering wheel and shift knob. so the verdict is non sport? i didnt know if i check the vin it would tell me if it was the sport. i think thats the best way to really find out for sure before i buy these lights. they come with the bumper light strips and theres no return so i wanted to make sure theyre gonna fit for sure.

Non-sport. The sport also came with a partial wood wheel and shift knob. Early non-sports came with a leather wheel and shift knob due to lack of availability of the wood pieces. Lincoln swapped the leather for wood for those that wanted them when they became available. My non-sport V6 came with the wood pieces and it was made in early summer 2000.

LS4me did you add the shifter? Because part of the Sport package (at least on gen I) is the Select Shift Transmission (SST). Can someone provide a factory invioce window sticker for a sport and a non-sport?
The Sticker for my 02 had the sport package options listed as:
SST
Alpine 6 disc
Advancetrac
heated seats
17" wheels
sport suspension
moonroof in addition to the other options it had.
You might have been able to get those options on a non-sport but those were the Sport package at least on 02.
I have brouchures from all year gen IIs if anyone wants me to post those options.

mine came with all that, except i still had a 6 disc but no alpine, just 4 factory speakers

Mike is telling you that we all have the same transmission - and he added the SST shifter.....

If you went with the Premium model and added the Sport package - you could have got the wood grain steering wheel, wood grain shifter, lincoln emblem floor mats/trunk mat/seats and the audiophile stereo - which were not allowed as options on the Sport.

What Lou said. I added the shifter and as it is a 2000 I have the sport calibration so D4 (which I used every day) is available.

this may be a dumb comment since i, clearly, may not understand what D4 is for, but if you are driving around in D4 all day aren't you burning extra gas and money?

Yes, you don't get the best mileage. I use D4 for heavy stop and go traffic and here in the mountains so the transmission in not constantly hunting for the right gear, going down hills so as not riding the brakes.

What do Gen1 and Gen2 have to do with anything? We are talking about sport vs. non-sport. The discussion of which generation is entirely different.

Here's my understanding:

sport package = 17" wheels, sport suspension, SST and often times no chrome bumber and leather steering/shift knob

The package was available on both Gen1 and Gen2 cars.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the oil cooler on the sport model.

D4 is for driving like a maniac when you are too lazy to use SST. D5 is for driving like an old lady. SST is in case you are cool. Reverse SST is in case you are a downright awesome bad-ass.
