Interior lights staying on after start up

I also noticed one of the problems I have which I forgot to mention before is sometimes I'll go to get in my car and after unlocking and opening the door the interior lights dont come on at all until I put the key in and start the car..or put it in the start position at least. This seems to happen whenever the key pad doesn't work..it has to be in conjunction with the other issue. Just waiting for my switches in the mail, we'll see if this fixes it.

yeah. if you leave the car door open the car goes into a sleep mode and kills the lights to avoid killing the battery. so it will think its still asleep until you do something like start the car. so could be the door switch.

I ordered my mine Wednesday morning and they came today, they were supposed to come Monday so they came quick.

Yours looked pretty worn out but either way, now you know you have new and the other issue was resolved. They're an easy swap aren't they? Get those rubber boots in there ASAP to help protect that new $15 investment. :)

Kevin, I really think the switches are going to fix you up. Almost sounds just like what mine was doing. Everything had to do with the keypad not working half the time and the interior lights acting up and the switches fixed it for me.

Put the boots on with the switches:D

Looks good Willis lol but the main thing is that you found the problem and got it fixed and ended up with new rubber surrounds and switches. I'm sure they were on their way to failure soon, if they weren't already acting up before the swap.

Reminds me of mine...

Well I got my door switches in the mail today and tossed them in..had a little hiccup when I noticed how much farther the new ones stuck out, looked at the old one that came out and compared them..at first I thought they were the wrong switches. I tried slowly closing my door with the switch in and the door would not shut all the way because of how far they protruded. I ended up taking it back out, putting it in the vise and lightly tapping it with a hammer to slide the nut farther down to where the original one was.

unfortunately this did not cure my problem, I still have the intermittent non working key pad with interior lights that occationally stay on after locking and shutting the door, however mine do not stay on for the 45 second time out period like some have mentioned. I sat there and counted it out after closing my door and the first time it acted up the lights stayed on for 20 seconds and after I repeated the process to see if the same thing would occur, the lights stayed on for like 10 seconds..so there's no real pattern here..I don't get it. Oh well, at least I have some fresh motorcraft switches in there for the future. I'll have to find the thread on the other switches inside the latch that some other people have talked about before. Once I find it ill post the thread link on here.

found it, here is the "other" door ajar switch I was talking about..and it does not look like a fun fix.

under the "verify the problem" section it lists the symptoms and this is exactly what mine is doing.

Hate to hear the switches didn't get you fixed up Kevin. My keypad would work sometimes and sometimes not and the interior lights would just come on for no reason. It could be sitting in the garage for a day or two and if I was out there, I would catch them coming on for no apparent reason but after the switch swap, the keypad has always worked and the lights don't just come on anymore. I can pull up on the handle, while locked and they stay on for the 45 seconds and then shut back off. Yours must be the harder fix and I hope mine never see that day because it doesn't look like any fun.

I've got some new (used) door panels so when they're off ill try the cleaning method of those switches in the door.

I'm getting a bad link? Tried 3 times!

Yeah it didn't work for me right away either I copied and pasted it in my browser and it worked??

The new switches slide with in that nut so you, shut your door and they adjust to your door, no need for a vise.

They were pretty tight..the nuts wouldnt slide on their own so I had to give em some motivation.
