I am noticing that my interior lights are staying on a bit longer when I unlock my car and even after start up they stay on for maybe 8-10 seconds(they usually shut off on start up) and shut off. I disconnected battery for a bit too see if it could be a module and maybe it would reset and no luck. After start up I can depress the door light switch and the lights still stay on until they "time out". Any ideas on what my problem might be?

Time delay switch, the scroll wheel next to the headlight switch.. roll it down to the thinner part of the marking

Nolimit had a thread about the door ajar switch.. (the one in the door jamb) he says it fixes it..however there IS another switch somewhere inside the door in the mechanism that supposedly goes bad also causing the keypad to not work as well as problems with the interior lights staying on..I searched this before and found a write up on a different site about this other switch/sensor..ill try and find it again. I have a problem with my key pad not working sometimes and the interior lights staying on after shutting and locking the door when parking it..ill have to try the door ajar switch and see if that fixes it since that's much easier to get to.

I messaged Terry about it because I knew he had a problem with his and he said my problem was different than his, and also recommended to change the switches.

My keypad didn't work half the time either until I swapped out switches for new ones. Since the swap, works every time now. I think two Motorcraft switches can be had off rockauto for under $10.00 with shipping. Not like it would be a major loss or really considered "throwing parts at it". Now when you spend $40 or more for something that you don't know if it's going to fix the problem and not be any better, then I consider that "throwing parts at it". Kinda hard to go wrong with new door jamb switches. Just imagine since 1995, how many times they have been in and out, in and out and been sprayed with WD-40 which washes away the important (lithium) grease. All I can say is that they worked for me. I done both sides for peace of mind and because they were too cheap not to.

Old switch, new box.

One more thing I need to add is that when my drivers side switch tip fell out, I tried putting it back in and this is where it got confusing. When I pushed it in, the interior lights came on. When I let it fall out, they went back off. I never held it in long enough for a 45 second time out. Maybe that's what confused me. I applied power to activate interior lights but didn't hold it in for the full 45 seconds. Since the swap, it vents right then, the lights don't just come one for no reason and the car can set for days and the keypad still works on the first touch.

Kevin, I think you just need new door jamb switches and they swap out easier than a windshield wiper. No joke.

I still remember us talking about this. The next time I order anything from rockauto, the two switches will be with the order whitch should be soon. Haven't had any problems with the keypad lately and never with the lights but for 10 box wth! Can't hurt can it? lol

I would have to say that those switches were one of the best parts I have ever ordered besides the air shocks. For the price though, it's hard not to just make the swap. It's not hurting a thing and you'll know you're good to go for years to come. They can both be swapped out within 5 min and that's taking your time and looking for the deep well socket. Easiest part I have ever changed on a Mark. The good part is that they worked and fixed the problems I was having. Intermittent key pad functioning and interior lights just coming on, even after setting for 2 days. I would be in the garage sitting there and then I would see the lights just click on. Doesn't happen anymore now.

Not bad at all and worth every bit of that $15.00

Well I just jumped on the bandwagon and bought two off of rock auto also for a whopping $15.30. Worth a shot at fixing the annoying interior light problem. I'm kinda pissed at myself now, when I was looking closely at the door jamb switch I noticed the little roller bearing in the lower hinge was dry and making some creaking noise so I lubed it up with a shot of oil..well the roller bearing was stuck in one spot for who knows how long and wore a small flat spot on it, so now that it "rolls" again, whenever it hits the flat spot it makes a loud annoying clicking noise when opening and shutting the door..did it to both sides..same thing happened with my thunderbird. If my door was saggy I'd just replace the hinge but they're fine. Guess I have to put up with the damn noise now.

I have the same clicking noise on my 97's passenger door. Very annoying!

Replace the roller....I did! Rebuilt the the hinge....free!

I would if my doors were sagging but they aren't..that's kind of a lot of hassle just because it makes a clicking noise. Where did you find new rollers for the hinge?

Well I can't believe I failed to notice it but the rubber seals around my door switches are completely gone, so I do suspect them to be the culprit, new ones should be here Monday:D

On a side note how do you guys get your sig pics so big, mine won't go any bigger than what it is now.

You were missing the rubber surrounds all this time and only had the switches there? I sent you a PM about the pic too.

My low mile Mark has been starting the close pass door and the interior lights stay on till time out. Only pass door and it seems a bit funny considering how little that door has been used in the cars life

After the car has been started up, it's doing this?

No, it's after I get to work and I open the pass door to get something I brought with me. When I closed it the interior lights stayed on and the security light flashes on the dash.

Sometimes when a fiend gets in the car and shuts the door the message center with show the pass door is open for a while. Then it eventually go's out. Intermittently it was doing this but starting to do it more and more now :(

Well got my switches today:D, but they didnt fix it:(, but then i fixed it:D

My car has an after market remote start on it and there is what i believe to be a programming button on the drivers kick panel, i held the switch the horn chirped and the key fob did not work, held the button again while holding lock button on remote and the key fob worked and my lights shut off immediately, then i started the car and the lights again shut off immediately.:D:D

So in the long run I got some new door switches:D

and heres the old ones along with the old rubber seals that were almost completely gone:
