I trust you guys here so of these hree what one should I get?

I would buy a 540i if thats what I wanted but I want a 740i Sport.

Price wise they are all right at $9000 with the silver being a few hundred cheaper.

Also I like two the best but really like buttons so am leaning to number three. Mainly cause its a one owner car thats spent its whole life only being serviced at BMW and the guy is selling it cause he just bought a new 7 series.

dunno nothing about BMWs. i do like the darker silver colors though.
but if the silver one is cheaper with more goodies...

you fail to understand....procure 740. install 540I 6 speed. enjoy best of both worlds:D

#1 looks best,BECAUSE it has the biggest, clearest pics!

we need to see GOOD pics of all 3, which i figure wont happen,if you looked at them in person, you already know which one you want, if maybe only subconsciously.

not looking at pics and only reading what you typed, i choose #2

Like I said, love those cars. But repair and parts are expensive, and resale value is non existent.
I wouldn't spend more than 4-5k, with that kind of mileage especially. 9k is too much. And thats only if you plan on keeping the car for a long long time, possibly forever.

Still the best looking sedan of the 90s. and I had a w140 S500 too back in the day.

I would be afraid of the auction car being I'm not a mechanic. I would choose #3 for the simple fact it is a one owner and has the service history and is the cheapest. Best of luck with all your new endeavors!!

Number 2 seems to have a little better service history. These cars are known to grenade the water pump and destroy the hood and radiator. Car 2 has just had that all fixed. Car 3 owner says he dont see the replacement in any of the cars servvice history.

All new front end components are cheaper then a water pump, tubes and a radiator plus I like its color the best. Turns out the silver car isnt fully loaded as well. Only has the heated seats. No PDC or window shades or power fold in mirrors makes me want that color less. If I have to settle for fewer options I at least want the color I like the best.

I understand Steve. The whole reason for getting a 7 series is so I dont modify it cause really there is nothing to mod. Sure a CAI and chip but I wont go insaine on it when I need to concentrate on my shop. :)

I would have said #1 was a solid choice until you mentioned "auction"..eww, all auction cars i have seen around here are piles for some reason..these auction cars are the ones that sh*tty used car dealers usualy pick up. Something is either wrong with it that you don't know about or it was repaired once before..you really have to look over it top to bottom, check door gaps and seams, look for over spray, get it in the sunlight and look to see if all paint matches, look for hidden body work...

lots of factors with a car with no history..2 or 3 would be a better choice probably, even if you have to spend a little right off the bat.

That was my reasoning when I got my swift. Then I ended up doing poly bushings, springs, konis, bigger front and rear disc brakes, and a bigger engine.

I'm still into this car for less than 1500 including purchase price.

Ill tell ya straight up. The BMW will get an Infinity Basslink cause the stock subs suck, halos for the lights, Alpina style front lip, M style rear spoiler and a Dice media bridge so I can hook my phone and USB card to the factory stereo. It will also have the mufflers cut off and I will weld in some turndowns, may get a CAI and Dinan chip.
If I dont do the CAI and Chip (prolly wont) then I will be $750 into it mod wise. If I do the chip and CAI then thats another grand and it wont be done till the shop is going strong.

I know. Car is just gonna be a comfy DD for me. Cars never gonna be my hotrod or anything and I would like to carry friends easily.

Give me a year, my next two door hotrod will be something special. Still undecided if its gonna be a bored, stroked, forged, C head, twin screw LSC or if its gonna be a blown 2011+ GT but it will be something to scare people at WOT. :D

Pretty much any car that is repossessed will go through an auction as do many other vehicles that are not "piles". Since banks will finance back to 10 years this car could have simply been a victim of the economy and does not mean it was neglected. And there are several types of auto auctions, the ones open to the public are the worst. I have bought 45+ auction vehicles before for resale.
This is why I said that Laser's inspection since he knows what he is doing will be more valuable than a set of service records. I certainly would take it over the other one with more miles and worn out front suspension. In my experience private sellers gloss over the bad, with an auction vehicle it is there without the BS. Just my opinion though.

A guy on the BMW forum gave me the best advice. Everyone says get the silver one but one member noticed how mch I ike the bluish grey color and I do stare at that picture. So I think thats the one. I like the silver car and all but when I stare at the color of the second car I smile. I like having a car that makes me smile when I look at it. Hope to take it home tomorrow night or Saturday. Kinda thinking Saturday so I can get there in daylight and thuroughly go over the car.

What advice did the guy from the BMW forum give, if you don't mind sharing please?
I'd say the 2nd at that mileage as it has the water pump etc done and thats usually when they go. 3rd sounds decent too. All are a bit high mileage for what I'd look at though. Check the water neck on the rad too as they can get funky, as well as the clutch fans, rears like to leak etc...
I'm going to look at a '00 740iL tomorrow actually (non-sport though ;) )

His advice was to get the car that moves me. Thats the car that moves me. Plus its has a new radiator, water pump, belts, engine seals, all new front end components and timing chain guides and full service records. He also did rear bushings and a million other things, even the cats. Car is about as good as its gonna get.

And in 10 hours it will be mine!!!!

SARCASM

REALLY?????!?!?!?! You think so??

/SARCASM
Not sure what thats about?

His advice was when you are buying such a car to make sure yu get the one that makes you the happiest and moves you. That particular color moves me and its exactly what I want so why should I "sttle" on the silver one when its not REALLY what I want?
