I think it's time! (Gotta do something about my wheels)

My Cobra R wheels are sitting in my back yard under a tree gathering all sorts of cr@p from lizard eggs, muck, gunk to God knows what else & it's time to do something about it. I refuse to get rid of these wheels because I went through so much to get them & I know eventually I will be using them again.
Anyhow, I by any means do NOT have the $$$ to have the wheels re-chromed which would be my ultimate wish so I'm left with the following options. Take a look at the pictures below (The wheels look nice from far but take a closer look, 3 of 4 are peeling badly):

I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY good with paint & I've painted wheels in the past & they've looked amazing! That being the case I am REALLY thinking to paint the wheels in my free time which is ALWAYS since I'm unemployed! ALSO, by painting the wheels it allows me to spread the costs as much as possible. I can do one wheel every couple weeks & all I end up spending is about $18.00 on each wheel. I was thinking of sanding the wheels until I am simply BORED of sanding. There's so much corrosion on them it's not even funny! Then give them a couple good coats of primer & some sanding again to make 'em nice & smooth, 3 coats of paint, then a couple clear coats & a nice buff to finish everything off.

So the BIG question is:

What color to go with?(these are random goggle pictures)

SILVER(ON EVERY FORD/LINCOLN/MERCURY OUT THERE)

CHARCOAL OR GUNMETAL GREY (MY FAVORITE CHOICE SO FAR)

OR

BLACK

I never painted on chrome but your process looks good. Might have to use a self etching primer.
If I use mine next year I'm going to repaint them again. I do a couple coats of primer, lightly wetsand, 2-3 coats paint,lightly wetsand, then 2 clears. At that point I usually don't have to wetsand but results vary. Let them cure and then put a couple coats of wax on em'.

I use the duplicolor silver wheel paint/cc. I've always wanted to try reg silver paint but never have. The dc is decent stuff at best, and at $7 a can for both paint/cc I wish there was some type of paint/cc that was stronger. Chips pretty easy imo.

p.s. You could always try that plasticoat stuff.

That's not an option for now. TO sell them I'd have to get a TON of money. More than they're worth in their current state.

Painting on chrome is not as difficult as ppl make it seem. I know its difficult to make out but look at my truck in my avatar then in my signature. My truck is a Lariat, it has the OEM chrome bumper in the center above the lower valance. I painted that 2 years ago. Paint looks the same as the day I painted it. It's all in the sanding & primer.
In this particular case I'm going to be working a lot with a spatula as well trying to lift the chrome where it's bubbling.

I've got a problem!!! I really want to do the plasti-coat but they don't make it in dark grey or charcoal. Any word on another company that might make plasti-coat "knock off" in grey? Otherwise I will most likely go with regular paint!
