I got Tricked !!!

The new SMG-type autos are faster than any driver in a manual. Fact. More fun than a manual? Debateable. Also..the 335 is twin turbo. There is no non-turbo 335. The non-turbo 6 is the 328i. The Sport Package option adds the larger wheels, sport suspension, and I think..some aero pieces for more aggressive looks. Manfacturers arent offering manuals much anymore..because there is minimal US demand for them, and auto's these days are just as fast, if not faster, than manuals.

And If Im not mistaken, a 328i will also beat a LSV8. Power to weight ratios are the key.

Hello u do realize that you have an 02 LS right, so instead of dumping on it why don't you go and find an 02 BMW 330 to compare it against...Then you will appreciate your 02-LS again for the car it is....Imagine the possibilities if there were an 07 LSV8. Point is look at the fact that you even compared it to ur bro's 07 should say enough.....But yes you were way out of your league, (in performance, modern style, and technology) 5 years is a big difference

Sorry Saw your Sig and u have an 05.....still go find a 05 BMW 330 and the same rules apply.....Basically you will roast it.. Or for that matter get a 5 series to compare (Non M5 or 540 M-Tech Models) since that is what the LS was intended to compete against....Boom you will rock them all. Point is the LS was a great competitor and surprise but Lincoln dropped the ball on us.

Was in my first M3 two days ago. I was at the park with the wife and kids and was shining things up a bit on the LS.

I parked right next to a nice silver one. I don't know what it is about them but they are sick cars!!! They have a very simple yet very intimidating exterior ( well up until the most recent body change ). The guy comes up with a Frisbee and says nice wheels. I look over and notice they are the ones that look similar to mine but a deeper lip and a BMW emblem in the center. I say yeah thanks but they are way more fitting on your car. He actually asks me why. I saw well its a M3! He starts talking to me about how he had a LS before this and it was the worse car he owned but as far as looks went he loved it enough to just deal the "fixins" ( that was the word he used ) the first time and fix it right.

Go figure.Someone with a car that has tucked tires from the factory and yet the smoothest ride ever straight from stock.

80hp from a tune is a hell of a tune from the factory. Ah good old power adders. I do like the new BMW's a lot. As far as the last American car I'd own... Not sure. I've always had a thing for vettes.

Tunes always get LARGE gains on turbo'd cars. The primary method is to boost the psi..which over time, will reduce the life of that turbo. There is a reason why the manufacturers dont get super agressive with the boost from the factory. Also..the 335's initially had some serious problems with the engines going into a oil temp overheat/shutdown mode in stock/non aftermarket tune mode. I seem to recall BMW then changing their production to include the Sport package oil cooler in all 335's from a certain production date, but read where the oil cooler still didn't work well enough to keep the oil temps from rising dangerously high in race/track conditions.

I personally would be cautious about too agressive a tune with them.

And BMW does NOT have the best reputation with a new engine design. See the V8 Sulfur issue of the mod 90's, the M42 engine Timing Case Profile gasket fiasco of the 1992/1993 years, and the spun bearing issues of the first 1-2 years of the E46 M3's engine design.

that being said, I'm on my second BMW (M3 convertible) and love it. :-) Just had it up to 140mph yesterday..(wont say where)..and loved it. Rock solid.

Actually the 330i is faster than the gen2 LS8 and the 540i is faster too.

Car and Driver's results for 03-05 zhp 330i are 0-60 5.6 seconds and 1/4 mile in 14.2 seconds.

lol, such butchering of the name of BMW's, cars are Bimmers, bikes are Beemers.

Ran a new turbo 3 awhile back(one of the guys in the club bought one) and it was cool, had him by a half car(car already had exhaust and intake). I got to ride in it aswell and its definitely nice but I do not care for Bimmers like I used to.

I've only ever heard them been called Beamers by owners, dealerships, SCCA club members. I only ever heard them be called Bimmers on a magazine and a forum. To each their own.

And there is no comparison. Germans are on a whole 'nother level than any American car. The only brand as a whole that is remotely catching up right now is Cadillac.

Those turbo BMWs have insane potential, I'd just be afraid to modify them at all or any late model car for that matter.

Bimmer, shmimmer...
Where's the cooled seats, answer me that! Thats right, In the Lincoln. Thats where the cooled seats are!

Ok, if the LS got totaled today, I'd probably go 335 shopping, cooled seats or not.

In our discussion about the 335 i beleive he said the Dinan tune was only available when you have the added oil cooler, so i'd assume not all 335's have the oil cooler.

To answer the other question about comparing my '05 LS to a '05 3/5 series, i still dont think it would be a close comparison, from 35 mph or so maybe but not from a start. My original intent was to see how my V8 would hold up against the inline 6, but the turbo thing kinda ruined that.

With there being more and more V6 cars coming out with more horsepower and better times than the LS its almost time to forget about the LS being anything more than a nice cruising car. Alot of people especially newcomers to the LS think they are behind the wheel of a NASCAR. In my opinion, when a n/a V6 can out run a V8 then its time to turn in its ballsack.

I understand it was never intended to be a race car but its kinda embaressing having a V8 badge on the trunk and having someone in a V6 clowning you. I bought the LS more for its looks than its engine, but lets face the fact that as men we are competitive by nature.

A great point I rarely see made!

Plenty of Bimmers have cooled seats. Where have you been? :p

My friend has had a 97 M3 for about three weeks less than I've had my LS. It's faster, but drives like crap. He had just gotten it aligned and it was still pulling crazy hard to the right. After driving that thing back from Tennessee through Alabama and Mississippi I decided I'd never own a used BMW. My opinion, my LS rides smoother, looks better and drives better than that BMW. Just my opinion.

The E30s ride really nice. I drove a friend of mines 86 325 because the starter went out and none of her other friends could figure out how to fix it. (long story) Car handled great and rode about the way my moms Camry does. Just enough give to make it comfortable but you still know when you go over a bump. Not like a Caddy, but pretty close.

you just drove a crappy car.

Well, that may have been the case. Still - opinion formed. I would rather own a domestic POS than a foreign POS.

This thread is funny.

TL, give me a break.

3 Series, fine the 335 is great but before that hardly kickin butt and before that a neat car but to say its way better than a LS....not exactly.

Its exactly why there was no Gen3 LS. Had little to do with build quility or reliablity, plenty of us with no problems.

A 3rd Gen LS would have competed fine if they wanted to build it. If there was more loyalty to the "Sporty Lincoln" it would have happened.

You guys jump in the funnel and pop out that cookie mold.

And a hot wife will get way more looks than a car.:D

The 3 series is a poor mans BMW just like the C class is to Mercedes. I'm sorry but the 335 is way better than the LS though and I still think it'd do better than your theoretical 3rd gen LS just because of the sheer fact that it's German over American and that statement in itself is tried and true. TL's to me are just stupid because there are so many on the road. It's like an even poorer man's BMW.

And what the hell kind of statement is that the LS would've competed fine if there was more loyalty? A Pontiac Aztek would've competed fine too if there was more loyalty!

Not what I said. I said it would have competed if they built it. They didn't cause who would hve bought it? Some but not enough to build it. Lack of loyalty. A traditional Lincoln owner didn't buy the LS. Had they stuck with it who knows.

Very different than what you said.

A Gen3 could have easily been a widened Gen2.

Ditch the 3.9 and go 4.6 3V. Suddenly everything would have been easier.

Easily 320-340 natural hp. Just a fine tuned Mustang plant, the way it used to be. SC model even if they wanted.

Guess what a manual option!!!!! Who would have wanted that???No work to figure out.

Ditch the Jag diff and go to the 8.8 LSD, I figured it out for them, works nicely.

I love the 3.9. It could have been made to have more power but so much harder than outlined above.

You could see the LS change gears when the Gen2 was less sporty than the Gen1. They were going back for the Lincoln buyers instead of heading the direction they started.

MB, BMW,ASTON MARTIN, all great driving cars but with affordability being a concern I ended up with an audi A4. I could afford it it is fun to drive built well, and luxury...............................

Then I misunderstood your statement. But unfortunately I still stand by mine in the fact that a 3rd gen LS wouldve been doomed from the start. They never wouldve changed it that much like how you said. Instead they cease production and come out with the MKS.
So far I'm unimpressed with the that too and while there might be a slight aftermarket crowd for it the eco-boost but just like most on this forum, that will be long off since I'm going to make a fair assesment and say most of us bought our LS' used. Even then, I can't see them having a big aftermarket following. Maybe a little more than the LS but less than the Mark.
