I just found a performance shop 2 minutes away from me. Its down the street a few lights away.I can't believe I had never seen it or known about it. :slam Its on a little street off a main street but not really visible if you pass by. That is so COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dancefool :wrench :zgreenbou :facesjump :headbang: :hump: I paid them a little visit. I wanted to jump on that dyno when I got there. They had some sexy cars in there. A dark red 69 camaro on a lift, that thing look super clean. Some other classics up front too. The owner came out and was showing me around, I went to high school with his nephew and played lacrosse with him. Hopefully he'll hook it up :D The mechanic specialist guy was talking to me for a while, telling me how everything works and how the tuning process goes. Going to go back to stock and dyno it, then add mods and dyno tune it :D I'm excited.I just saw a hose has a crack in it today and is leaking so I have to get that replaced. If I had the money to give it a go, I'd be all over that this weekend.I'm thinking after christmas I'll be able to get my dyno tune. I might also switch over to magnaflows. The guy was telling me how flows aren't really for performance, mainly sound.I am going to get her on the dyno with stock tune and stock air filter with the flows and then go switch out for magnaflows and do another run to see the improvements from exhaust and build up from there. So I have my new to do list for the dyno appointment. New fuel pump, new hose, stock air box, magnas, x pipe, delete resonators, new spark plugs. BUT MAN I'M EXCITED :D

do yourself a favor and skip out on the magnaflows. i have them on myself but they arent really as loud as everyone thinks. maybe at first but then a mustang gt or a monte carlo ss pull up to you and kick ur ass as far as exhaust goes, and i have exactly the setup you want, magnaflows with the resonator delete and an x pipe welded in. im gonna just chop the mufflers off and weld in some new tips and straight pipe. i suggest you speak to ur guy about the exhaust that would give u the best performance/sound like changin it up to 2.5 inch pipin from the catback. if you want ill post the vid so u can see urself, i didnt floor it but you get the idea.

Yeah, that true. Matybe slp's. They have a similar sound to flows.

A dyno tune is the way to go. I should've done it when I had my LS. I just had my 300 done and with the canned tune that comes on the Predator the car put down 379 hp to the wheels. After the tune, 406. But there were spots that the car picked up 30 horsepower. Go for it, it'll be money well spent.

2.5" pipe you will lose low end torque. You'll gain hp in the higher RPM ranges though. Depends on where you want your power. This car is already a DOG from a dead stop.

Completely off subject here but NYC that pic of your car on the dyno is bada$$.

How much does a dyno tune cost usually?

Depends on the place, I guess. The one for the 300 cost 6 bills, but it's definitely worth it to know that the car is safe fuel/timing wise and to get a few more horses out of it.

Also Alax remember the Gen 2's don't gain much at all with exaust. Ford cleaned it up pretty well, I thought I read the most gained from exaust was like 3 hp maybe 5... Gen 1's on the other hand, do see an improvement. Just throwing that out there before you put alot of cash into it.

On the 2 gen changing the cat back you are changing the sound not much bang for the $$. You are better off with a CAI like K&N FIPK and a tune for about 30 hp at the rear wheel.

NYC LS8, didn't you put your ls on a dyno? You just putit on dyno but didn't get it dyno tuned? This place does a dyno run for 85 and does dyno tuning for 120 an hour or so.

He said the most would be 520 for the dyno tune but could be around 300sh for my car.

I did read that about the exhaust gains on the gen 2 but the guy also said you lose horsepower with flows because of all the stuff in between the two opening that gives it its nice sound. He said he told a guy with a brand new charger or challenger, to not go with flows if he ws looking for performance and he wtill went with them., He put him on the dyno before and after and he lost 20hp from stock.

I did feel I loss of power fgoing from my borlas to flows. I dont know if its true or not about the flows but I did experience hp loss myself. Also, on the flowmaster website, there is no data to show hp gain. Borla and magnaflow both brag about their gains but I couldn't find it on the flowmaster website.

I have that. I first I got exhaust, then CAI, then a tune. Spsully was telling me how he is at 296 rwhp NA. He has a gen 1, I was thinking maybe I could get to 300rwhp since gen 2 do have more hp to start with. He ws telling me how little things add on, so little by little I can gain number here and there and hopefully get up in the 300s before hitting the spray

The LS was just basically to see some numbers, no tuning involved.

The guy that did my 300 did something like 22 pulls on the car before he felt he could get no more out of it and had an air/fuel ratio at WOT of 12.3-12.4. On top of that, he gave me 4 tunes to run with, all with different things included/removed. It's well worth the expense, as canned/email tunes are pretty useless since every car is different.

I'm sure but there wont be any gains from the exaust :D

Yeah but I would rather have a nice loud sounding exhaust with little gain or atleast no gain but with no loss than a nice sounding exhaust for the cost of hp.

Yeah thats true. Going to unlock some hidden potential in this little beast I hope.

the catch is that gen 1s wake up alot from the typical bolt ons and gen2 dont see the same gain. The best I/E/T gen 1 ive seen is 14.3 and gen 2 14.2...... the gearing being different can get that .1 other than that the power, tranny, torque curves all are ridiculously close!

As for flowmasters vs magnaflow..... magnaflow hands down from a performance stand point. That being said, the gen 2s dopnt see the same 15-20hp from a cat back that the gen1s get. To do cats on out, you should get more from it than just the cat back. Like I said in PMS, keep playing around with different things. you may get some here and lots there, you may ever go backwards. Just keep playing with things till you get it dialed in the way you want. The nice part about this, it there isnt really a wrong answer except mabye autosocks

It may be true about not gaining much from magna flows. But was also got me thinking was when the guy at the shop told me about the guy with the charger losing 20 rwhp by taking off the stocks and putting on flowmasters. I dont I knoe I wont gain much bt I dont want to lose hp by putting flows when I can get a nice sound and stay at the same hp. What about SLP? Thos sond pretty good.

Hey Alax, where is this place at in Downey?

Its by warren high school. You that IHOP on paramount? its the street after it. Making a right on paramount from firestone, after IHOP you make a left and you'll see it. Its like 2 buildings down from that tires place at the corner. Its called VACA performance. There is also dyno day which is 55 to get on the dyno. Hey if you go check it out let me know so I can see your ls :D

I think you should try cutting off the mufflers and see how you like that with just the stock resonators, wait, the 03-up LS have resonators right? I love the sound of most cars with just a resonator, or hell just take the whole cat back off, I've done that to several cars, sweet, sweet engine sounds. MMMMMMMMMM now that hits the spot :D

Yeah they have resonators.I might do I set up someone on here has. Muffler delete, slp resonators and x pipe. Sounds nice.
