so i about a month ago my car ran hot and the ac quit working... so i tested the fan and it worked. bought a vlcm/vcrm. put the vlcm in and nothing so i broke down and started testing it. 13.6 volts from the harness. with the new vlcm in testing ground and power from harness. so i figured the fans low speeds brushes were going bad. so today i buy another fan plug it in and nothing.

I am at a loss. i made a harness to run from the fan to the harness with a place my voltmeter can test while it is plugged in. when it is unplugged it shows 13.6 volts the second you plug it in nada nothing not even a glimmer of voltage. :mad:0.00:mad: what the fock, i am completely at a loss

If you can tell me what is wrong tonight and you get it right i will paypal you $10.00

nobody wants to make $10? come on guess if you guess right it pays.
I am just at a point to where i have no where else to look

Check the ground make sure it is a good clean ground

76.6 ohms of resistance from the ground side of the plug to the ground on the batt

that seems a little high do you know where the vlcm/fan system actually grounds?

I'd look for a break in the harness then. Not something largely obvious because when you test it there is power, it's probably a small bend or fray of the wires to where when a load is put to it it is not passing enough juice to turn the fan. And you can always run a new ground or add a ground and it won't hurt but I bet there is something wrong in the harness or plug.

so let me get this right if i run a secondary ground off the harness it will not mess up the load readings from the vcrm?

just tried it and no dice i had an extend harness running to a fan i have sitting on the ground plugged harness in to plug and fan ran jumper wire directly to the batt ground from ground wire and still nothing...

I wish it was something that simple, idk wth it is

if there is something wrong with your ac will the fan still run? I know that makes no sense because the car overheated the moment the ac quit working. but at this point i am grabbing at straws

i wonder if I have 2 bad vlcms? variable load control module, right? if it is bad will it still send 12v in order to sense the load requirement, and possibly it is reading the "load requirements" incorrectly? then shut the system down as not to cause more damage?

by the way I think i met you at a gas station in Kansas. I was doing a super sale right around the corner from there and you were towing a blue on blue first gen with a 5 speed swap a set of 03 cobra wheels and a cobra brake swap. was that you? last like October i think.

Keep it simple. My 98 had this problem. With the A/C on, wiggle the plug to the fan. I can almost guarantee the fan and the A/C will come back. It is a pretty common problem. If that fixes it, go to a junkyard and cut a plug off of a conti. They are the same. Good Luck!!

gawd i wish i could keep it simple...

I have wiggled and wiggled and wiggled... i even made a jump harness out of 3 foot of wire, 3 male crimp connectors, 3 female crimp connectors so I could manipulate the male connectors in the harness. if the connector is plugged into the harness and not the fan I get 13.68 volts from anywhere I test. the moment i connect it to the fan, the voltage immediately drops to 0.00

just to make sure, i am about to go cut the connector off the harness and wire the harness straight to the fan... not it I am holding the connector in my hand I hard wired the 3 wires with crimp connectors straight off the wires to the fan. i now have the connector disassembled on my desk no burnt ends no melted plastic NOT IT!!! WITMFH

I was up all night working on this problem and reassembling my car. haven't slept yet and I am working on a proposal now.

I am going to get some sleep tonight and strip the harness to look for any imperfections tomorrow... I should have a new harness in the mail now. would still like to isolate the problem befor replacing the engine bay harness.

Nope that was not me where at in Ks were you

hays Kansas just off 70. this guy was just passing through getting gas. towing a blue on blue ?93? (i think). had all the mods i want manual swap hub swap cobra brakes nice guy we talked for like 10 min. he stated that he was on lvc. and I thought his user name was "?????sdad" if i remember correctly, it was his sons car and he sold it. he was just transporting it.

+2 its mikes old car, so you either met mike "94m5" or his dad JD, heres the way to tell, was it an older guy with a handlebar mustache or was he in his mid-late 20's and looked like a bean pole?

sorry cant help ac problem :(

Nobody's mentioned this yet. Only 2 of the 3 wires that plug into the cooling fan are good. 1 power and 1 ground. The other wire dead ends in the harness and goes nowhere. I can't remember which one is dead off the top of my head but can find out for you.

The middle one terminates in the harness.

The outside wires on the harness connector are Black to ground and Light Blue for power from the VCRM.
