I started looking for my next car, this didn't go well with my current 98 LSC.

It started making a howling noise coming from the motor, only when throttle is applied lightly. Doesn't matter if in gear or not. Only happens from time to time.

The only other time I had this sort of noise what when the IAC when bad and the car sounded like a moose.

Again it happens once in a while. Anyone had this before??

P.S. Looks like Ill be keeping the car for some time, don't think I will get more than 2500 for it, and I rather keep it as a spare car if that is all I can get for it.
I still love it for some reason.

Sounds like something in the serpentine system is starting to seize... or maybe water pump is about to go

Hmmm...New tensioner, and idler pulley.

Hope its not the water pump.

Is there a way i can check to make sure its the pump? Noise comes around from time to time so I dont know what sparks it.

Well, one thing you can do is while the car is cool and the cooling fan IS NOT running, spray WD-40 (behind) the pulley while the car is running, not the front side. If it's that part, the noise will vanish and then you'll know what you need. Water pump, you'll just have to listen carefully but as easy as it is to change and it's cost, can't hurt anything to swap it out for a new one but obviously not if it's only the pulley wheel. Both kinda sound the same when they go bad.

Take the belt off and run it a minute or two and see if the howl is still there.

did the howling noise come from airbox or throttle body? i had a similar noise it was coming from the air intake. i changed the iac sensor on the top and it stopped.

I had a IAC go bad in summer and the sound was similar, even worse. I replaced it with a generic brand and all was well.

Drove for 400 miles today, no sound.
