Just a quick question, I was filling up my wives Mark at the 7-11 and a guy in a new GT pulls up and comments on how good looking the Mark is and says its to bad they run like *!*#. I just blow of the comment and go inside to pay, he waits and pulls out right behind me, so I just cant ignore him behind me revving the hell out of the GT so I click it down to first gear and try to keep traction, he walks the stang sideways gets along next to me and I open it up to 60MPH and shut down low and behold he is about four car lengths behind me, Of course he keeps the peddle down and blows by me, I am not much for running on public roads.
I was just surprised it did not fair better.

just some cocky stang man who thinks his cars the :q:q:q:q. dont get me wrong, the GTs are nice but id take a mark any day of the week

This is purely speculation on my part, but I guess the terrible aerodynamics of the S197 would play a part on the highway, even though it has a bit more power and torque.

I don't know what their Cd is, nor do I care to look. Horrible cars.

They're faster. He was just messing with you.

And I do believe you were surprised it did not fare better :)

Oh he was not messing with me! My wives car runs 13.2, and that was before I switched to stage 2 cams. I had no doubt I would take him I was surprised by how much.

Their not shabby. But who evers driving the stang better be ready No F@#$ing around shifting Or you'll be gone every time. To sixty. Although your car probly flat out beats em. Nice work. I wish I had more chances over my way.

Stock for stock , it's sad but Mark viii will get murdered in every possible category.

My mods, 13.2 was run before switching to stage II cams,
Engine, Cobra crank, H beam rods, KB pistons, 11.2 to 1 comp.
Stage II cams, with mild port and gasket matching. Modified Stock GenII intake, modified IMRC's, 1" throttle body spacer, 1/2" upper plenum spacer, Steeda under drive pulleys and timing adjuster, 28LBS EV6 injectors, 90MM MAS, cold air intake, and tune.
Trans, 3500 Baumman converter, stage 4 shift kit.
Solid ballanced GenI drive shaft, 3:53 gears and lock.
3rd cat removed twin X crossovers straight dual 2.5" to back no mufflers.
And again 13.2 was before the cams, shooting for 12's now.
I was just surprised I put so much distance on him the quick 0 to 60 in the mark is a couple eye blinks.

Ah yes, that makes all the difference. A mild build on a Mark wouldn't stand a chance versus a new Rustang, but yours did quite nicely. Well done.

just because the numbers say a car is fast does not mean it is fast. i put my lil 83 1/2 shelby charger against things it should have been beat by, but because the idiot in the other car couldnt drive his/her car as well as i can i win.

ive met a lot of car owners that have fast cars and cant drive them to save their lives, they are usually the ones who buy the car built and think "Its built, so i can beat any lil thing i run across" what little do they know is the car is only part of the equation the other parts include driver skill and experience.

But with most new cars, the unskilled driver factor is taken out of the equation by electronics. You romp on the accelerator, and the car's stability control, traction control, engine control, they take over and ensure the car will accelerate as quickly as possible for the conditions. All the dumb stick behind the wheel has to do, is steer.

I've driven a couple of newer 600+ HP cars, and it's kind of sad, really. You don't need to feather the accelerator, you don't need to feather the steering wheel to make sure it stays straight. All you do is mash your foot down, and the nanny takes over, making sure the car gives you it's best.

Being a Mustang owner, and seeing first hand how the S197 fares I can tell you they are about a mid 13 second car in the 1/4 mile with an average driver. The best noted by a guy on the forum I go on ran a 13.2 bone stock.

The best New Edge (99-04) GT ran a 13.7 stock on that board by a guy with the sn Dimebag.

Don't underestimate the new stang by any means. You just ran across some douche that has no clue how to drive that kind of car. The fact he put his car sideways a bit tells me he DEFINITELY doesn't know how to drive that car! My stang weighs less than an S197 and has a 30+ WTQ advantage, and I don't ever go sideways.....actually, I barely even peel out. I could rip the tires up through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd but that proves nothing.

That guy was a tool, and I'm glad you put him in his place!

Exactly. And with the advent of everything coming with paddle shifters & DSGs, racing becomes a matter of who can push the gas pedal faster...

It's a shame, really. Sure it helps ordinary people extract more from their cars, but most drivers have no business taking a car with exceptionally high limits anywhere near them.

At my track the new 3V Stangs are low 14 second cars auto, and the manual ones will do high 13's with a stick with a good driver. This is bone stock of course.

I just read the C&D test;

Camaro vs. Challenger vs. Mustang.

Mustang Wins!!!! BTW, they clocked a 4.9 0-60.

yeah but is that the 2010 mustang? cuz its supposedly better than the 09. we haven't gotten one in yet, had a black on black on order for a while now.....

0-60... please, who drives 60 anymore?

They should change that "test" to 0-100.

+1 , Im already at 60 halfway through the on-ramp. Usually hit the freeway at about 85. Unless of course that stupid semi is getting on right in front of me:eek:
