HID Kit Issues

Ok, I got a HID kit for my 93 and I am having some issues. Sometimes both lights come on, but most of the time it is only one (can be either side). I can unplug the ballast, plug it back in, and the light comes on. I can't add a ground to the ballasts because they have a plastic case?
Also, I take it HIDs don't work unless the key is on? They will not turn on with the switch.
Anyone have these issues?

I would just get with the ebay seller and let them know you didn't want the slim design style and to send you what was pictured. That would be "item not described as" but I know who the seller is and I'm sure they'll take care of you and send you the metal casing type.

Mine will come on without any key in. Just turning the light switch turns both of them on and neither of my metal casings have any additional grounds. It was a simple stick, plug and play. You might also want to make sure you have the updated light switch in that 93 because there was a recall on them I believe. If you need one, I have one here. Pull the switch from it's harness and see if both have a melted look. If the switch is updated, it shouldn't have any melting at all. I don't think the switch is the problem but it is something that does need to be fixed. I think the problem is in the plastic slim design ballasts.
 
do you have leaky airbags? if my bags deflate and my compressor kicks in it usually wont turn on the lights because not enough voltage is getting to the ballasts. try waiting for the compressor to kick off and see if they both come on ok.
 
The headlight switch and harness are fine. I checked them when I had the dash out. I have emailed the seller and I'm waiting to hear from them. It appears that since they will not come on without the key being on, that they are not getting enough juice to fire. I bet that the slim design requires a relayed harness to work properly.

The bags are not leaking
 
you need a relayed harness for the hid's, the mark VIII has way too small gauge wire feeding the low beams for power. you need a ralyed harness so the ballasts ignite straight from the battery and not from the factory power wire. some hid kits will work fine off the stock harness, but alot dont, you dont have enough current going to the ballasts and thats why you are having trouble. i recently tried a brand of hid's that i never tried for a customer of mine, they were 30 bucks cheaper than the ones i normally use, well, big mistake, i need to add a relay and harness to his now too because they flicker like police strobes. they suck, so to solve the problem without buying another kit, i need to do the relay and harness.
 
That's what I thought. Most of the relay harness I see look like they only plug in to the car's headlight harness on one side...Is this right?
 
most only need one harness on either side, the one sided harness's just need a signal from one ballast only, but you can do either, a single or double harness.
 
Maybe I took that wrong. I was thinking of it as plugging into one harness on one side and running it across to the other side to run both. Either way, I'm plugged in on both sides.
 
I had the same identical problem when I purchased my first HID kit off of Ebay.. It is the ballast. I bought another kit after one of my bulbs/ballasts went out, and I went with a different seller, and have not had one single issue ever since. Even when my compressor is running, both lights will come on. They will even come on when the engine is idling high at initial start up.

One thing you may consider, is the age of your headlight switch. I think that also had a lot to do with my issue. I replaced it at about the same time I did my new HID kit, and I have absolutely no complaints except that my housings SUCK, :lol:
