Just was wondering if theres any updates or any new video's on your cars.

Also just for information....what turbo and wastegate are you running, and how are you liking the power? was it worth the cost?
 
I believe Steve is the only one left - couple of guys are building up (one with rob's first gen, and the other with rob's sec gen).

Steve was still sorting out a last few items - mostly around crankcase pressure.
 
custom built turbos.... they are the brain child of Rob, i don think he would appreciate giving teh info out. think t3/t4 for general purposes. I dont think the waste gate matters too much but its also fit specifically by him. Im also thinking the worst time of year to ask guys about the power their LS's are putting down. I know mine is stationary till I put it on a trailer. The guy down the road from here has one and its even parked for the winter.
 
I just read my post and I came off as a dick. Im sorry about that. I just woke up and my thoughts are close together without words between them. Id like to see them post up some numbers too maybe from this past summer.

Wastegate- Like Sean said the wastegate itself doesn't matter a whole heck of allot. I do suggest getting a name brand wastegate as it is about the most important safety component in the entire turbo system.

Turbo- A larger T3/T4 turbo or a smaller T04E turbo will be in the range to work best in the LS 3.9 V8.
 
i just want to hear them driving. i remember one WOT run someone made, but i want to hear how it sounds just driving normally. My experience with wastegates and what ive heard is that basically the wastegate is what actually makes the rear mount turbo work and not have extreme turbo lag.

Sucks we are only down to 1 turbo LS on this site, I really wish there were more of them out there. What is the Crankcase pressure and how does that relate to the turbo? I wanted to take up welding as a hobby, once i get good it would be nice to do my own piping and everything for the turbo.
 
well the other two guys are hard at work - so more are coming.

All forced-induction cars see increased crankcase pressure - Steve was seeing a lot of oil coming out of the PCV vent tube, and some oil seeping from the VVT solenoid - all signs that there 'may' be some pressure building and forcing the oil up and out. He has sealed up the VVT solendoid and re-routed the PCV filter into the intake through a catchcan to seperate as much oil from the air as possible.

Too much crankcase pressure is dangerous - how much is too much? I have no idea.
 
Being in New York I'm waiting till spring to put ILLS's turbo kit and Ray's LSD in.
Even have a spare almost new 05 V8 engine that I couldn't pass up for 600.00.
Since I drive 25,000 miles a year and want to keep the car another 5 years or more, with the turbo I'll probably need it.
May do the LSD first.
 
my turbo setup has begun aswell. hopefully the differences in the v8 and v6 will be benefit my setup, being a gen1 v6. also putting in the lsd and hopefully a different manual tranny. but well have to see. i plan on doing many custom pieces. progress will be documented and posted. just have to get my s4 finished first.

Wastegates are on all turbo systems whether they be conventional mount or rear mount. It is the valve that opens and closes to control turbine wheel speed and in turn boost pressure coming from the turbo. What makes a rear mount work without much lag is the proper sizing of the turbocharger itself. Sizing a turbo for a conventional mount system is very critical as well. Both just require a slightly different approach.

You will not see ET's indicative of the turbo cars power until someone does a higher stall TC. Once that happens then things will get real interesting with some of these turbocharged LS's. A higher stall TC is pretty much a given in a turbocharged auto car because it drops ET's like a ton of bricks.
 
It seems there will be a few of us doing turbo systems this next year. I will be in that group as well, though it will be a TT system on the G8 and not an LS this time.

intresting. I thought only automatic cars with cams required a higher speed stall. Didnt know that went for turbo cars aswell.

Also, yea i knew wastegates are on all turbo systems, i just heard that the size of them mattered. but your right, more then just that is gonna matter when it comes to turbo lag.
 
since you'll need to rev up the turbo to create the boost - you'll want to match a TC that will still be multiplying the torque in that range
 
Economy ain't what it used to be. I havent' gotten a commission check in 6 months :(
 
OK. But I don't think it's exactly been helping since.
 
I have a pair of Garrett hybrids on my workbench. As you may know, a dry sump can be configured to pull a vacuum in a crankcase. Mine will have one section that'll not only be a crankcase evacuation system, but also a scavenger for the turbos. I'll be using both 38 MM Tial WGs and Tial BOVs
