I replace my VC covers yesterday and car is dumping a bunch (A LOT) of oil. I'm assuming I didn't get the dipstick tube back in there correctly. Is there some sort of secret to getting it back in right? Can't get my hands in there....

Your case just reaffirms my position that some things should just be left to the dealerships. I applaud and respect the DIY, but its not like trying to fix your VCR or something. One small "whoops" can end up costing alot of $$. I have a great Ford dealer by me to do any work i need, which from what i have read is rare. Good luck.

That doesn't help him at all, Fla02LS The guy is asking for help not a lecture on who should do work on HIS car. I understand you opinion on the matter but try given the guy some help instead of haggling him. This forum is for ppl needing help and if he's trying to save a buck it's his business.

Sorry I can't offer any help beaups, but sometimes I get really  when a guys asks for help and gets a response like this.....

Rant over....:D

Isn't this what a car enthusiast site is suppose to be about? modding, repairing and advice?

If all we ever says is "don't do that - it'll void your warranty" and "take it to the dealer" - would seem we would have nothing to talk about other than how exactly the same our cars are and how much the dealer charges.....

True - the internet can make things seem simpler than they are - but most car guys like working on their cars and learning a little bit more every time.

beaups - it should just push in with a firm wiggle.

I agree!

Does the LS have an O-ring that helps seat the tube into the block?

Thanks guys, I got it with the "firm wiggle". Turns out that wasn't my oil leak...the gasket wasn't properly seated on the VC so it self destructed and was leaking oil all over. Changed it again...all better. Believe I did the drivers side VC gasket in 90 minutes?? Practice makes perfect:)

Good Job! Persistence pays off.

Glad to hear you got it figured out....without taking it to the "dealership"..

I was going to ask if that was a possibility, but didn't want to offend your DIY mentality. Some people don't like it if you ask them if they did something the right way. Glad to hear its fixed.
