Ok, I consider this a 911 but I know it's not a HUGE deal to some of us. As some of you know I purchased a Collector's Edition neon for my prairie tan. It's been humid the last few days here in Miami, especially the last couple nights with major rain & now my neon is 70% fogged up on the inside. Major water accumulation. There was a storm about to hit at 1pm & I quickly removed the neon, sealed the trunk holes with tape & brought the light inside my house before the downpour began. I want to let the water out but I don't want to ruin the light. How do I do this? Any suggestions? I don't want to drill holes because they will be visible through the red lens. My fear is that it will stain the silver backing & create those black stains I've seen on other neon's. I CONSIDER THIS AN EMERGENCY BECAUSE IT'S A Collector's Edition NEON. THESE ARE RARE & IT WOULD SUCK IF IT GOES TO WASTE. I just took these pictures right now, this is how it looks. Check out the pics below...

Alex, after doing lots of searching on this forum and others, I found that people that have this moisture problem soon have an inverter problem and the neon goes out. 'They' say to drill little holes and the problem goes away.

I know you don't want to drill, but I guess its the only way. Unless someone that knows more about it than I do comes along.

My neon works, and it doesn't. I switch my light on and off and it comes on sometimes. I'm heading out right now to clean the connections. "They" once again, say that if the neon works as I said the moisture could have gotten to the connections.

Hope it all works out for ya.

Quick question, what makes the CE more special?

ooooh. I am not a fan of the gold at all. :-/

Yeah it depends on the car. For example, your white car wouldn't look good with gold lettering at all. Neither would toreador, silver or even that charcoal colored Mark. On black Marks it's all about taste. I personally like black Marks debadged because it looks so damn clean. I think the only 2 colors gold lettering looks decent on is cordovan & this prairie tan I have.

gold letters

Yea,
I have a 98 CE and sorry to say,the original neon was damaged in a rearend collision, so now I just have a LSC neon taillight, would like to find a CE taillight.....The car still has its gold LincolnStar grill emblem. I was entertaining the idea of using a permanant gold marker on the lettering, cause the last owner had the mind to salvage the gold Lincoln Star emblem that is also gold.

Being gold doesn't mean that its a CE. The CE didn't come in prairie tan so yours was probably a dealer option.

You didn't read did ya'? Some time ago last year I ran across a guy that was parting a CE right here on LVC, I bought the neon & grill from him. I painted them & installed them myself.

This neon has seen quite a bit of rain in the last few months since I purchased it. Just now that I install the ballast does it begin to leak. My theory is that the little weight the ballast puts on the passenger side of the neon has separated the housing just enough to get moisture in there. That's why it's mostly the right side of the neon that's fogged up.

Alex instructions to fix your neon is on MarkVIII.org you have to drill small little holes on the back side of the neon on the black portion on the bottom corners...use a small bit and your moisture problems will end. This happened to my toreader red.

That's exactly what I did. Right behind the little reflectors on the corners. I drilled a couple more holes on each corner NOT SHOWN in the pictures. They are LOWER than the first three holes seen below.

Holes are NOT visible through the reflectors

Unless of course you peak through the side

Still trying to sell my ce neon with gold lettering. No interest yet. Oh well it won't go bad sitting in the garage.

CE neon

I am interested in buying your CE neon, need one for my ride. Your add said $75.00 without the ballast, is the price still the same. If so I'll take it. Please send me some pix.
Thanks,
Lee

You are correct sir I missed that part
I just got thrown off cause you got rid of the only thing that made it a ce neon the color.
Glad you got it fixed though hopefully it will never fog again.

Drill into the sides or top of the neon, not the back silver lining or the bottom.

Same results without being noticeably being able to see the holes.

I would put a piece of cloth or something over the holes to keep the dust out

Yeah this upcoming weekend I'm going to work on sometype of mesh to put in front of the holes.

Drill into the sides or top of the neon, not the back silver lining or the bottom.

Same results without being noticeably being able to see the holes.

Problem is the side doesn't have much room to make holes. :(

U only need a small hole, the sides are at least an inch wide...trust me, ive done it 2x
