I'm refurbishing my second set of headlights, and it seems that heat is the the problem. Has anybody come with a way to get rid of the heat inside the headlights? I have a few ideas, but I wanted to ask the experts. Semper Fi
 
I have a 95 Mark Gen ? 114k miles. The chrome seemed to go bad, and the top of the low beam had a blister from heat. I have a HID kit but wont hid's put out more heat?

95 is gen 1.

stock bulbs are 60 watt.
the HID kit you will want is 35 watt (some are 55, but in my opinion, the extra power is not needed).
with fewer watts, one would expect less heat.
 
Thanks for the info I have a hid kit that is 8000K 75watts. I'll try the regular bulbs that I have in it now. There a step up from orginal. I read awhile ago on LVC to remove the diflector. I'm putting them back, I want to see the road, not the trees. I have an idea of how to get the heat out and keep the unit sealed from moisture. Less heat, longer life for the bulbs.
 
I have 6K 35W low, 8K 55W high on mine. Unbelievable difference from the halogens...

I am sure they exist, but I have never seen them. The lumen output would be blinding and about as illegal as one can get.

I think mine were 35watt also. I still have them. Took them out when the car was disposed of. They were plenty bright and a huge improvement. Of course keep in mind, for any new guys out there reading this, that if your light output is crap changing to HID may not improve anything. Thats because the reflective material breaks up from the heat of the stock lamps. Without reflective material, the HIDs will not be much brighter.
 
I'm sure I read the info off of the invoice. WOW they have been hanging around for about a year. Got them from hidgeeks $50.00.guess i'll have to put them in now. My idea is to install a heat sink through the top above the bulb, cooling fins out. Seal it with high temp silicone. Heat out and no moisture in. Sounds like it should work.
 
I have had the DDM tuning 35w kit for a little over a year now and my housings are bad already. Ford really should have done a recall on these housings and gave pre-96 LSC ownerd HID housings....
 
I bought new housings and installed two 35 watt 6000K kits and after a drive at night, I have went straight to the housing and felt of it and I feel very little warmth but the chrome backing still looks like new. 55 watt or higher is not needed if the chrome backing is in very good shape. my housings are just now going on 2 years old but again, they were not refurbished and not cheap but they have never had a halogen bulb lit inside them from day one.

I don't foresee any problem in the future with the chrome ever being burnt. I have put my hand over the front of them while on and they are barely warm. Not hot at all. I opened up the panel and touched the top of the housing and no heat there either. It's a high price to pay but buy new housings and be done with it if you plan to keep the car for any length of time. I bought mine from tasca.com
