having transmission troubles in my 96 mark VIII and my 97 mark VIII

i own a 96 gen 1 and a 97 gen 2 mark VIII my gen 1 has a b&m stage 2 shift kit in it a c&l cold air intake and slp loudmouth exhaust and the 97 is stock

now the problem im have with "both" are the exact same its weird i was driving in the 96 just the other day and i was next to a rustang and dropped it in second and took off then threw it into "drive" well the trannie felt as if it had went into neutral but then was trying to pull as well so i came to a complete stop and took off the car red lined i let off the gas and let the rpms go back down then it jerked and took off like it was supposed to now when im accelerating it will go into 2nd when it does and then when i punch it full throttle it down shifts but doesnt catch and just revs up until i let off the gas and then the belt squeals the 2 gen is doing the exact same thing nothing differant its so weird iv never seen anything like it for both cars to do it now iv replaced the neutral saftey switch nothing changed i replaced the shaft speed sensor and still nothing i changed the tps "throttle positioning sensor on the gen 2 because its alot easier to get to then taking the manifold off of the gen 1 and still nothing is differant does anybody have a clue to what this may be because im am completely lost where should i start im not throwing any codes what so ever i have checked the fluids its not slipping if you have an idea please let me know asap thanks!!!:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

dont feel bad man my tranny gave out yesterday also...im taking the car in to the tranny shop this tuesday to rebuilt my 98 tranny that i have in my backyard.
 
Even a well serviced trans before 98 doesn't need to be treated like a red head step child, when was its last service?
 
Gen 1 sounds like it's toast. Mine would do the same thing, punch it, would accelerate, but very slowly and it would be redlining and take forever to shift, if it wanted to. As you stated, I also had to let off sometimes, just for the thing to shift. Now, I bought a 97 trans, but later after scrapping my old 94 one, i found out that the accumulators were broke in half, might check that out first.
 
First of all, you do realize that when you put your gear selector in '2', the transmission stays in 2nd gear - even if you come to a complete stop. These transmissions are different than most in this aspect. They will not go down to 1st if you leave it in 2nd, so I don't understand how you tried to race somebody by leaving the line in 2nd gear - never gonna work cause you'll never have the acceleration of 1st gear in 2nd.

Second, have you checked the fluid in these transmissions? Are they low? Is the fluid red? What does it smell like (does it smell burnt)? You can learn a lot about the clutches in your tranny just by close inspection of the fluid.

Third, it sounds like the 'shotgun' approach you've been using by throwing parts at it isn't working too well; I never recommend that approach because you can create additional problems to compound your original issue.

Fourth, take the pans off and look for pieces of metal. If you find some that look like slices of Chicklets, I'm guessing you've torn up the roller clutches in those trannys from your 'spirited' driving (I've done it).

Conclusion? Start with a newer transmission if you're going to abuse them (like a 2002-04 Mercury Marquis since they were prolly never abused), j-mod it, fill with Merc-V and never look back.
 
I agree completely with Netkeym... Throwing Parts isn't a good idea. Secondly, that "belt squeal" you are hearing isn't the belt, it is your transmission. My car has a shift kit, but some times if you let off the throttle before a shift a certain times, it will do that. It is when the clutches are first being applied, but slip. Next thing, does it shift normally at a normal throttle amount in Drive?

That must be a Ford thing. Every Ford vehicle I've ever had with an automatic has had this feature. My '67 Fairlane was the first car I really noticed it in. It had the "Select Shift" transmission option that allowed manual shifting and takeoffs in 2nd gear. My '67 T-Bird and '69 Cougar also had it as did my '86 Crown Vic ex-police car (it actually had a C5-AOD with a 2-D-N-R-P shift pattern that I had never seen before, no 1st:confused:). Anyway, as far as I know, most if not all RWD Ford automatics since the early 1960's have this feature. I've never seen it on another brand. Being able to put it in 2nd and take off really comes in handy in sticky situations like snow and mud:D
 
when i put the shift kit in i put all new mercon V fluid in it and i was doing 50 when i down shifted into second beside the mustang my 96 has 153000 miles on it and the 97 has 158000 miles on it

when im driving if im going slow it will shift at about 30mph sometimes it will literally red line and wont shift unless i let off the gas transmission shop says the 2nd gear is out but when i put it in 2nd gear it feels like its pulling but something is telling it not to!!

Like someone else said already the clutches sound like they are failing, I had this happen with my old 97 tbird, it would neutral out when shifting into 3rd until I let off the gas then it would SLAM into 3rd. There is no cheap magic fix for this..you either need to have it rebuilt or find a used trans with low miles that you know came from a running and driving car..Just be happy that yours lasted as long as it has with 153k miles and a shift kit in it..mine started going at 100k and I never abused it.
