no more having to turn the Joe Bolton notifier on and off separate of the key stroke

sits higher up on the windshield so it's not as noticeable to thieves and the PoPo...clean mod

Why didn't you tuck the coil cord up in the headliner? Doesn't look vey clean IMO, but your LS is sexy as hell.

Tuck that wiring up behind the headliner by the windshield and then it'll be clean. I like it, though :D

ehh..i would cut the coiled part off and get some wire and take it to the fuse box..tuck it through the headliner, run it through the panels..ect..mine only has about 1 " of wire showing...its a mark 8 but im sure u could do it to your ls. it only took me about 25 min to hardwire it..

my responce took alittle to long...i dont know how much give the ls's headliners have..thats alot of wire to tuck..

There's plenty of room above the headliner, and the forward edge is easy to pull down enough to stuff the wire in.

i'm a slow typer and had to upload a pic.

edit: are u talkin about the wire or how long my respose to the post was joegr??

also, i'm not a ls guy but where did you hardwire it to cutter?

took the crimps out of the connector going into the mirror, cut them off and recrimped new ones with both the detector and power leads together

personally I like the coil hanging like it does...besides if I want to move the detector around on the windshield, I can because of the service loop

There is a gen1 ls across from you in the first pic.

I would also say to tuck the cord away. If you want to move it just pull it out, it's not like it will be permanently stuck there. What brand is that?

yeah, the headliner isn't the issue, its the getting the suction cups to stick to the dot pattern. I think its even worse if you have a replacement windshield in the car. It can take a while to find a spot in between the visor and rear view mirror that wont let it fall down.

I would have just put it up in the visor and ran the wire down the A pillar and wired it to an on/off switch so I can hide it if I actually DO get pulled over... while completely legal in most states if the time arises if you actually do get pulled over nothing says "screw your warning, give me a ticket!" like a big 'ol radar detector in the middle of your windshield

JIMO

Yeah, the gen1 belongs to a buddy of mine...he's running a 100 wet shot on it but the tranny is starting to protest..I think it's coming off the car

the detector is a Passport 8500..saved me quite a few duckets in speeding tickets

it's not in the middle of the windshield....in fact you can barely see it from behind, front or side of car

and your gonna be hiding a detector while 5oh is coming up behind you...oh...that doesn't look suspicious at all...you'll be lucky if you don't get pulled out of the car and givin the ole 'Give that yaig a pat down'

+ 5 on tucking the wire, or getting the passport hardwire kit that just has a straight wire

sbcaprice305: you will want to be careful putting the detector up too far, if it is behind the blue tint, it will reduce your forward range, and if it is mounted too high the headliner will block the rear facing sensor completely

damn good catch eagle eye

::sigh:: you don't understand...

the radar detector is already hidden regardless if there is a cop behind you or stuck in a ditch in oklahoma... I've done this kind of thing before... the only thing you need to do is turn it off via a toggle switch... otherwise you cannot see it at all, the sound gives it away from above your second visor when cops are present and all the wires tuck cleanly away down the A-pillar... that is all you need, so why keep it in a visual place? my passengers never even knew I had one until it went off

I can also tell you how the splice a button that will go to the fuse box and shut off the data logging for your mileage so your odometer never goes up if you want as well

;-)

just don't speed, lol

lol, that's been my plan. But I also have a 2 year old, and a second kid due in July. I'm not speeding with the kid(s) in the car. I just go 5 over. My navigation unit always shows a few mph under what my speedometer shows. So has those trailers the cops set up that show your current speed. So I go 5 over on the speedometer, and I never have to worry about it.

The only time I can see this particular install being negative is if you have a valentine one, and want to see the arrows. But for all other applications, as long as nothing is interfering with the range, that sounds like a pretty stealth setup.
