So I spent the last 3 hours dropping my fuel tank so I could try to knock the dent out. At least I know what to do to drop a tank now but that was all the positive I can think of. The dent is too far back and in order for me to get leverage on it then I would prolly break the pump mount. What a stupid design with that plastic part permenantly attached to the tank.

I can see why the tank only reads 15 gallons at full and even though it reads linear, when it reads empty there are two gallons left but they are unusable gallons. The dent makes the pump pickup the high spot in the tank so the remaining gas is all on the drivers side. Guess all in all its not that big of a deal but its aggervating and I want it fixed.

If anyone has a tank for sale please PM me and lets see if it bugs me enough to spend the money it takes to buy and ship it.
At least its pretty dang light. :)

Found this on car-part.com:

1998 Mark VIII fuel tank
Anderson Auto Salvage - KOLT USA-TX(Troy) 1-800-953-2809
$85.25

There is also one in Ft. Worth and one in Houston, both more expensive.

Thanks marked8! The one in Troy is real close to my work and will be easy for me to swing by. I can just swap it out when my drive shaft shows up. :D

good ole anderson auto salvage!

that is the place we did the 373 swap on my first gen, then drove over to little river dragway.

if you go there tell them that jeff (used to work there) sent you.

they are good people

So it seems the 97 and 98s are just a tad different. The black round part that has the two vac lines off the tank then feeds to the evap tray under the spare tire area and also to somewhere else only has a single fitting on the 98 tank.
So how do I get these lines off without breaking them? I need to put my old hockey puck (thats what it looks like) on the new tank so that it hooks up correctly. Do I use a heat gun on them and slide them off or would they shrink more? Or do I just use the 98 one and not hook the line up from the evap tray?

The old tank is the top one and the 98 tank is the lower one.

The only one I have to remove is the tank to that white/black round thing in the new tank and put the old one in the same spot. The other two connections go from the older larger round thing to the car and tray so it shouldnt be that bad. The problem is I KNOW those tubes dont just slide off so i am wondering if I heat it up some with a heat gun if they will slide off without braking. I dont know what to do otherwise.

Hey, do 98's have the tray under the spare tire well?

I am curious why the 98 tank.... thingy... only has one connection on it instead of the two that the 97 .... thingy has. The single connector the 98 tank... thingy has goes towards the front of the car and has no connector (or hose) that goes to the coupler thats behind the fill tube and then feeds to the tray. Wonder whats up with that?

uhhhhhh those lines dont come off, the component they are attached to does, aint pulled my tank but i know ford, the lines dont come off, and if they do they aint sealing when they go back on

One side of those lines goes to a part of the tank that does not come off so the line needs to be able to come off.
I wonder what would happen if I just use the 98 setup and dont hook up that one hose that feeds to the tray.
Frakin Ford, why they gotta change that stuff every damn year?

Fugg it then. I will just get a coupler and chop the hose in half after the "T" but before that little distribution block and put the old one on the new tank. Ill then use some silicon to goop it up to make sure it seals.

All I can do I guess. I would have prefered a factory fit but if those hoses dont come off then they dont come off.

Sounds like that tank is a PITA Laser and you ask why is it different from the 98? I ask myself all the time, why did they decide to upgrade all kind of things on the last year of production and then quit making them.

Dropping the tank irritates me and yours looks even more annoying to mess with.
