Suggestions for a muffler for my Mark VIII? 2 and a 1/4 inch 3rd cat back, true dual system as the 3rd cat is a new 2 in 2 out (have to be emissions legal here in Portland, OR). Looking for a muffler with a good rich sound to it, a good growl especially under WOT, but what I'm not looking for is the drone at freeway/cruising speeds at low RPM. I have a 1988 Mercury Cougar with flowmaster 40s and the drone is there, but its my toy, so I dont really care, I dont drive 100s of miles one way.

Any suggestions for what people have used? Any part numbers? Magnaflow XL?

2.25 inch piping from the dual in dual out 3rd cat, maybe back to SS magnaflows or flowmaster 40s. my dad put the flow 40s on his mark, i have the car now, im gonna get an LMS exhaust next year, or just change the mufflers. the flow 40s have a tiny amount of drone inside to be honest, not overbearing, annoying or obnoxious at all, barely noticeable if you don't stop and listen.

Magnaflow 99-04 cobra mufflers on my 1998 with 3rd cat delete with hpipe sounds great good volume when on it

My 1993 has flowbastard 40 series with xpipe in place of third cat and it's loud but lots of drone cruising at 50-60 mph and also real bad at about 35 mph if cruising steady and it shifts to OD

lincolonmotorsport.com xpansion II polished.

We never had a single problem with emissions with our kit, even California. One cat per pipe, your fine. We do all our systems in 2.5 inch.

I got a full cat back system with some magnaflows put on just a few months ago. Third cat removed, :q:q:q:q since we're in the same city you can come and hear it. :D

there's a true duel system - im shooting for my 94 soon >> http://www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com/servlet/the-117/93-dsh-98-MARK-VIII-EXHAUST/Detail

That's actually the system I ordered, its on its way as we speak. Some people do one 2 in 2 out muffler and straight pipe, others go dual mufflers. Since I'm switching out the 2 to 1 cat for a 2 to 2 cat (the guy at the muffler shop, he's a friend, the cat was used for 10 miles, then taken off due to the bmw it was put on being too loud, so I get the cat for free since he cant resell it as it was installed), the 2 to 2 cat is fully open inside, I mean, the cat material is there, but there is no wall seperating the 2 pipes in to 2 pipes out. So its practically an X.

Someone also suggested Dynomax Pros, not the bullets, but the other ones. Definately not a fan of 40s anymore. The LMS mufflers are just...way too expensive for mufflers in my opinion, not a slam against LMS or anything.

what magnaflows are best? i wanna get this 2.5'' aluminized steel kit from mandrelexhaustsystems.com -- and their x-pipe kit, what magnaflows will sound badass but not obnoxious?

I liked the sound of my 96' at WOT but my 98' is quiet. I almost want some growl out of it but I might just put some cut outs on it from my STi sponsor so I can have the best of both worlds.
