Gen 2 Real world E.T.

Maybe not, my '96 runs well with somewhat heavy 18" wheels. I know it would do better without them though.

I have seen many Gen2s in the 15s and not many at all in the 14s, so 1 second may be all you are really discounting.

I think a good tune would be worth much more than "a tenth". ;)

I think real bennies of tune are rev limit and shifting changes. Only picked up tenth here. But like the commercial "your results may vary"

well we will see I plan to do the plugs, Fuel pump and filter, and take it in for the tune in the really near future so we will see how that helps. As of now I will stick with the 18's since traction has not been a issue yet so the little bit of unsprung is not enough for me to sweat yet. ..... This pig messes with me to much I will buy a snail and cram some air down it's throttle body!

That's just scratching the surface.

The real benefits of a "good" tune are appropriate spark and A/F ratio control. ;)

I went from 14.4's to 14 flat through tuning before I swapped to the Cobra intake, and then from 13.8's to 13.59 with just tuning changes after the swap, so I've gained ~ .6 just through tuning.

There are many problems in the stock Gen 2 tune. :(

Where you at the track same day when you ran 14.4 then tuned car and ran 14? Also goes for the 13.8 to 13.59. Same day same track ? Just wondering. Man Gen 2 stuff, I'm just glad my Gen1 goes like raped ape with no super tuning.

Nope, same track, different days. However, my 60's are consistent and I know what the DA was every time that I ran, and I picked up ET even in somewhat worse conditions.

Make sure your IMRC are working. If they are not operating or stuck because of carbon build up, you will lose a lot of power up top.

97
Best stock 14.67
Average stock 15.1
been to the track once and no g-tech after my small mods
Ran 15.2 air temperature was 93-97 though

Way to go Right on the Mark. Very good time. I didnt see where anyone asked if Buckeye was turning off the traction control ??

Best stock time on my 97 was 15.3 at sea level. Averaged 15.6 stock. After mods (exhaust, cobra intake, jmod, 4.10's/TL, X-3 tune) Best was a 14.7 at 2000ft elevation and 102* temps.

My 1993 with just exhaust did 14.3.

My 1998 LSC with just exhaust did 14.4.

will the cobra intake work with the mark heads or did you need further modification?where did you find the cobra intake? thats a lot of improvement, george

I thought about checking them while doing the plugs. Can these stick and not throw a code?

They can stick and not throw a CE light, but the code will be there when you check them. I was surprised to find the code once just playing around with my X3.

George- 96-98 cobra works on all mark 8 heads. Found it on craigslist for like $100, good luck finding a deal like that now. I almost sh1t myself when I found it. Usually go for around $400 but the hp gains and coolness factor are worth it.

As I posted above my 1998 LSC did 14.4 with just an exhaust. And this was in a properly tuned up (just newer spark plugs, fuel filter & air filter) car, at the same tracks DLF runs.

Add Doug's 'not heavily modded' mods...
- Gears
- Torque Converter
- Headers/high flow cats
- Cobra Intake
- Tune
- Drag Radials (these do not matter unless you have above mods)

This should get you to Doug's time.

Good luck getting that tune right :)

SOOOO I went over to the dyno to pick up parts and while there we hooked up to the data logger. Good news is no codes and every thing is working as it should. Bad news is it is still slow :( . So fingers crossed that it will run better after this weekend (FINALLY getting the fuel pump installed and now doing the cobra swap(If I gotta take off one to clean it I might as well install the cobra one I have had sitting on the floor))

My 97 LSC ran a 15.2 completly stock, other than a superchip tune and a cold air intake I hacked together which probably hurt performance and the tune didn't feel like it did anything other than make the shifts a little firmer and it was august so it was probably in the 80's.
