Ok so I am thinking about buuying gears for my car after watching this(http://youtube.com/watch?v=SHVi2rhzHZk)so do you think thats only gears or he has something else on his car too?
So how much are the 3.73s? I want the 3.73s because it wouldn't hurt my gas mileage by alot, I HOPE.Would I need to do somethink else if i get gears? I think most people replace there driveshafts but my Mark VIII is one of the rare marks that don't need replacement because it doesn't vibrate at high speeds.

Just go with the 4.10's. Most of the guys who went 3.73's wished they stepped up once more. The "drop" in fuel mileage is negligable with a few other upgrades: K&N filtercharger, exhaust, chip, the works.

If you're that concerned about gas mileage, then keep your 3.08's and don't upgrade...

how much gas Mileage drop would I see with 3.73s vs 4.10....and what would be my top speed be after the gears? I want a fast but yet having good gas mileage. Plus what are the numbers for a 3.73 vs 4.10

hehe mine gets sideways like that if im still spinning when it shifts.

Looks like Mrzee is making everyone's Christmas much better.

If he gets the 4.30's, he'll be making his insurance company's Christmas, too :gr_devil:

Im only going to the strip about 2 times a month at the most, and its my daily driver.
So be honest whats better for the street, the 3.73s or the 4.10s?

4.30's all the way... the difference between 4.10's and 4.30's is like 200rpm on the freeway but the difference in the 1/4 mile is more.

Anyone know where i can get a 4-10? Looking and i have found nothing for sale... Also what comes on a 97 T-bird *V8* I have a pumpkin w/gears sittin in my garage for about 2 years now and i have no idea what it is...

Get the Summit racing gears 1 800 230 3030, they are made by FMS and work great, thats what I have been using for two years now.

Ive driven both 3.73's and 4.10's.

Im running the 4.10's in my 95, and will NEVR go to anything lower. That is untill I have the blower motor installed.

what kind of mileage do you get with the 410s?

And how does it do on the highway with 4:10s? IS it revving the hell out of it if i drive like 80 on the highway?

Id expect a drop of around 4-5 mpg on a stock car. The guys that are still getting 25-26 mpg with 4.10s have breathing mods that will help raise the gas mileage. Im sure if these guys had stock gearing theyd make 30mpg-ish

You'll barely notice the difference on the street with 4.30s vs. 4.10s.

Do it. :gr_devil:

I don't have my numbers in front of me right now, but about 0.15 seconds less in the 1/4 mile ET and 2-2.5 mph more with the 4.30s vs. the 4.10s. I expected more improvement in the 60 foot times, but that did not prove to be. I suspect that is due to worn suspension components not allowing any gain off the line. If that's the case there may be more ET improvement to be had.

What I meant to say is I saw no negatives on the street with the 4.30s in comparison to the 4.10s. The difference in rpms at highway speed was only slightly more and the mileage about the same.

That is about as high a gear I would want and still be comfortable on the highway. The 4.56s would've been a better choice for the track, but I compromised to maintain the car as a highway cruiser.

20+ MPG at 80MPH. This pic was from a recent trip to wyoming. I put it up to show you engine speed at a given Vehicle speed.

wow, thanks mike, now I have something to compare with. If anyone with 3.73 can get a pic for me, that would be great. Thanks
