I just brought some $20.00 Gabriel shocks from autozone for my 1993 mark viii. My question is will the shocks fit into the original upper shock mounts.

I would think so. What kinda of shape is the mount bushing in?

did not change them yet. I plan to have my mechanic to it tomorrow. I asked because I was researching and I read that some had to torch out the old bushings from the upper shock mount and install the new bushings from the new shocks.

If your not getting any clunkin dont worry about it. It'll litterally take you 10 min per side to replace them if not replaceing the mounts.

Most times you have to burn out the old rubber and install what came with the shock. You do know this is a job that can be done without even jacking the car up don't you? Not sure if you had tools or not but it's very simple to do. Also, since you had a 93, you most likely heard a clicking/knocking sound when ever you turned on the ignition. This was the anti-dive mechanism that was built into the factory shock. There will be plugs going to each one. Just unplug and leave them alone. They stopped putting those in during early 94.

when I tried jacking up the rear side of the car from slammed position, the wheels seem stuck up in the wheel well like the shock is stuck in the compressed stated. The wheel will not some down.

*breaks out decoder ring*

Where are you putting the jack? I hope you are not expecting the shock to fix the slammed problem.

Also those are the worst socks you can use. A stock blown shock is better.

From what i've gathered, anything other then tokico's or bilsteins in the rear will be bad when lowered.

I wanna switch out the cheap monroes i have w/ something else but the only good options are expensive options.

I haven't had any problems "yet" with my monroes and I have lowering springs. but I will say yes, I would like to have something better as well, and adjustables would be nice.

Anti Dive ? Not only do I have clunking from every wheel on my (spring converted) 94, I do hear 2 thumps a few seconds after I start the car. So I need all new shock mounts and disconnect the plugs from the shocks?! Fantastic info !

Yes, 93's and early 94's had what was referred to as "anti-dive" so when you hit the brake real quick, the nose wasn't supposed to dive down on you but like I said, they done away with that in early 94.

You can check with (DLF) on here to see if he has any stainless steel shock mounts for sale. That way, you can just remove the old and put the newer shocks in. I used Monroe Sensa-Trac's that are black and have had no problems with them at all. I removed the old shock mounts because they were shot. When I was done, all clunking was gone. I thought I was in a different car. The clunking is annoying.

So yes, shock mounts, disconnect the plugs or you'll still hear that double click sound when turning the key over. My 95 doesn't nose dive any more than my 94 did with those things on there. You can do the whole rear in less than an hour.

*AHEM*

He only had 10 sets to sell, which he got from me and has subsequently sold out of....

FWIW, I've also sold out of them. I'm not sure if I'll be doing another run or not...

Oh yeah, forgot you were the one lol. Now, thinking logically, the both of you have sold out. Why would you not do another run of them? I'm sure they would all sell with time.

Correct......with time.

The smallest run I can get away with is 10. If I knew that I was gonna sell half of them immediately, I'd be all over doing another set.

That, however, is not guaranteed. I have to pay money to get these things waterjetted, and then buy the bushings and fasteners and stuff. I'm preparing to get out the Navy in the next few months and don't yet have a job fully secured. I'm not so sure I can justify fronting that much money right now for something that will sell "with time."

I'd love to, but we'll have to see...

*AHEM* yourself! You just sold me the plates, I designed and assembled the bolt-on kits.

And if you're not going to make any more, a heads-up would have been nice, as I've been quite polite about the issue.

Are we really gonna start this again? :shifty:
