Ok so here is the story... This morning I started my Mark up to go somewhere. When I went to accelerate I heard this strange worrying noise. It would go away when I let out of the pedal. But it noticed it would come back if I was hanging out around 2000 rpm. Im thinking its one of the accessories on the motor. God forbid its something else. It looks like all of the accessories are original so what would go first on a 94,000 mile old Mark? Anyone's input would be great, serious or smart a$$.

Tensioner pulleys or water pump is my guess, mine sounds like a hoot around 1100-1500 when it's cold. It stops when it gets warmed up though and I know I have some play in the water pump shaft.

Does it do it just while under load? Or can you rev it up in park and hear it? If so pop the hood and work the throttle and see if you can isolate the noise.

Not sure. So far its just under load. I forgot about it until I heard it tonight. I will check in the AM if it does it at idle.

Just replaced my tensioner pulley about 2 months ago but that does not mean I did not get a bad one. Well I will have to look into it when the sun comes up I guess.

I'd listen to rayner.

What you explain is what my belt tensioner pulley sounded like. It was chattering so fast that it sounded like a whine when the bearings decided to clock out.

Ok. Well that rule out the AIR system. Mine sounds like a turbo right now.

Thats the first thing I thought when I heard it. In fact I think the first words that crossed my mine was "f*$&*#g emission crap!" Then I found out I did not have a belt driven air pump.

Is there even an air pump on that car? I cant seem to find one anywhere. Electric or Belt driven.

It was not needed in 93. 96 was the first year along with ODBII. I think the stricter standards were introduced in 95 for 96 cars?

Strange... I know my 87 IROC-Z, that I had, had one and my God I hated it! It seemed to go out every six months. Very happy to know my Mark does not!

You may be right. Now that I think about it my 79 may have had something. I dunno. But for some reason it was not in the 93 to 95 Marks.

Water pump... That's a win!
