Front Suspension Upper Control Arms - Jaguar!

Watch out with the EBCs, NYC had problems with them.. I run standard ceramics..

Stay away from EBC. I tried them once. They put dust all over the wheels and didn't last very long at all.

The brakes work fine. You have to push the pedal harder at low speeds than you do with most other cars. Once you get used to it, it's not bad.

Guess i will just get some cermaic ones.

they should be much better than semi-metallics.

i dont like how the pedal feels if i had the choice, but even if it doesnt feel like like it has much more, it really does have a lot more that it feels, but damn you really have to stand on it!

Just finished a front end rebuild with my new "Jaguar" upper control arms, plus new sport shocks. The sway bar, links and lower ball joints had already been replaced a couple of years ago and the outer steering track rod ends even more recently than that, so all that hardware was in good shape still. Car drives tight as new at the front now :) Don't think I even need an alignment as the wheel is still dead center (as it was before) and the upper arms have no alignment adjustment anyway.

Tomorrow it's on to replacing the rear shocks. When I get the rear apart I have a feeling I'll be needing more hardware!!

Hey I was wondering if you replaced the nuts and bolts for the upper controls arms im ordering these from max as well.I know that you are supposed to replace them with new ones just wasnt sure if the arms came with the hardware as well?

Thanks in advance.

when I ordered my upper arms (front and rear) from my dealer they did not come with hardware

Thanks im going to email max and see if he can get me those as well.

I ordered my upper control arms from Tasca for $210 shipped and received them in 5 business days. When i called and checked online it said they came with the ball joint nut but they didn't. I bought and received the nuts in 3 days.

sweet.

so this shows that the suspension is indeed a jaguar design which ford borrowed.

the entire powertrain and suspension is all jag minus the tranny correct me if im wrong.

yes - wrong.. there is an actual article that outlines all the common, close and different pieces between Jag and Lincoln. I posted it years ago - but the link is dead now. I'll e-mail it to anyone who PM's me with their e-mail address....

It's too big to add as an attachment here.

on the 'brakes' topic...

The LS is VERY good for a stock car. with a few upgrades the car is SUPER good.

Here is what I did brakes:
• CC RotorWorks drilled and slotted rotors
• Porterfield Racing Dustless Carbon Kevlar Pads (R4-S High Performance Street and Autocross)
• StopTech Stainless Steel brake lines
• Hand-made Dual Line-locks - Summit Racing Solenoids, custom bent tubing, custom made mounting bracket
• Synthetic 500 degree brake fluid
• Brake cooling vents in lower grill (NACA Vents, aluminum brake spindle hose mount, Neoprene Duct Hose)

The car can brake 3 times the G's the car can accelerate - so that is a very important fact to understand when on the track.

This got me thinking, and it's funny how related topics come up.

Back here (http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=76280 jmtiseo found that the lower control arm bushings for the s-type were too big.

But in this thread we're seeing that the upper control arms are jaguar control arms. Rockauto only has the lower s-type bushings. Has anyone found upper control arm bushings for the s-type? 'Cause I need upper control arm bushings.

I only needed the bushing also but couldn't find them. I ordered new upper control arms for $95 each. They're also Jaguar. Mine came with a hard plastic cover over the ball joint.

Something else of interest is that the 03-05 S-Type R had a different UCA then the regular S-Type and LS. It was forged instead of cast to help maintain suspension rigidity under aggressive braking and the balljoint was supposedly repositioned to adjust for the lower stance and re-tune the suspension geometry. From what I have read from multiple sources and have been told, the caster angle was lessened to make turning more responsive and the camber angle slightly decreased to help it stick more in corners. I have confirmed with an OEM Jag shop manual that the UCA is different between the regular S-Type and STR. Would have to do a real world comparison to know for sure.

Interestingly enough, the LCA is the same between the two. Knuckle is different so I don't know if any of the suspension geometry was adjusted here or all in the UCA.

One of these days I'm going to find a t-boned STR in a junkyard and pull the front end off of it for further study! :)

I would have thought you of all people would be one of the ones to actually have a BBK on their vehicle.
