front caliper question anyone help?

ok so i have the cobra twin piston aluminum calipers on the front of my car. ever since i replaced the rotors and pads the front caliper make noises when i am braking, the passenger one makes a thump thump thump thump as i am coming to a stop, you can hear it very well inside the car, i have had the caliper off twice and checked the pads, checked the caliper, put them back on, no difference. now today the driverside started with a faint snap sound when i am stopped, and roll forward with my foot still pushing on the brake pedal lightly, it will snap, then i stop, roll forwards a little more, snap again, its not loud, and doesnt snap like something is gonna break, just a snap like something is grabbing and not letting go until i roll the car forward. my question is, are there any other calipers i can put on my front spindles, that will work with the 13 inch rotors, that have 2 bolts that hold them to the caliper bracket like a factory mark VIII caliper, i cant stand the one bolt and one slide pin that these cobra calipers use, i think the pins are worn out and its causing my calipers to jump around when i step on the brakes. i just want my brakes noise free, if i have to i will put stock brakes back on this thing to get rid of this crap. i cant stand the noises it makes. can anyone help me or lead me in a direction for a solution, thanks
 
Slotted rotors will make noises for a while...especially if you've warped them. Would need to check the calipers for binding pistons also.

Didn't you have your rotors on backwards?
 
you are right they slide in at the top then get pinned at the bottom i forgot, yes i did have them on backwards and they didnt make a single noise when they were, its after i turned them around this crap happend. i should turn them around again, the rotrs arent warped i have absolutely zero pulsing in my wheel when i slow down and the pistons push in with ease.

I would check the pins for movement of the caliper when applied force is administered and causing the caliper to move slightly forward to snap back after released which could explain the snapping sound from the pin relaxing after being pinched from the caliper moving forward. Also, When was the last time you checked the condition of the pistons in the calipers? You may have a piston hanging on you, by you describing the slow roll and stop check, when slowly rolling forward, the piston is dragging and then released suddenly. And if a piston is dragging, then your rotors should be extremely heated after a drive.
 
How did you know they were directionally backwards? Do the slotted rotors have fan blade slots or straight line slots?
 
The slots on the friction surface should run the same as wheel direction...unless the fins are directional, those take priority, if fins are straight, then the slot is the deciding factor

Make sure the anchor bracket bolts are both there, and tight... The whole caliper could be lifting if one is loose or missing

You have saleens, so walk beside the wheels and have your wife drive in a circle and work the brakes...and you can watch what's happening
 
Anti rattle clips would be my guess. Second guess would be you drilled the holes wrong and the rotors are not PERFECTLY centered. Also did you bevel the holes (or chamfur) on the back side and make sure the rotor sits perfectly flat to the hub?
 
the rotors were drilled in a cnc bridge port and yes the holes are counter sunk slightly, and as far as them not being true bill, they are 100% as true as the hub, because the front rotors are the exact same size center hole as a mark VIII rotor they cant be out of round or they wouldnt fit over the hub.
 
Only need to bevel the stud holes if the stud flare protrudes through the spindle. In which case if they do, as it's not beveled, then the rotor would warp with wheel nut torque.

The over sizing of the rotor holes, or them not being trued to hub center could cause stud slap. ---can ya take a pic with the wheel off tomorrow, get a good shot of the hub
 
i just got done saying that the mark VIII and the cobra have the same size hub in the front, the hole in the center of the cobra rotor is the same as the mark VIII rotor so there is zero slop in the rotor when it in on the hub. only the rear cobra rotors have a larger diameter center hole in which case i have rings in there that true the rotor to the hub, but in the front there is no need for this. this wouldnt explain why the brakes were fine when i had the rotors on in the wrong direction, these problems would have been there since day one, and they werent.
 
Then flip flop the rotors and see if noise persist...

I believe Corvette C5 (or maybe it's C6.. whichever the 07-ish looking cars are) calipers are VERY similar if not identical to the Cobra calipers. I've seen some mustang guys throw em on their cobras just because they can. sorta as a joke, but they work.

The late C4 caliper from 92-96 is the same caliper as the Cobras. Dont think 97+ Vettes will fit.
 
i cant believe it, i pulled the car in the shop after work tonight because i couldnt take the god damn noises anymore and i found my problem lol. my pass side inner tie rod was smoked, i'm wondering if my bent wheel played a part in prematurally wrecking the tie rod. i dont know, all i know if the damn front end feels great now and no more popping snapping and thumping noises. wow!!
 
Brake noise huh, thats ok... This was described as a slight squeek to me at work over the phone... Then the vehicle came in..

I'm glad to hear you found your problem. If it seperated, things would have been much worse.
 
jeremy we had this guy come in once years ago at the garage i used to work at in mass, with a mazda rx7 an old one, he says can you guys take a look at my car it pulls to the right hard when i step on the brakes, so we told him bring it in. i put the car on the lift and pull the right front wheel off and laughed my balls off, the caliper was completely missing and there was a small pair of needle nose vise grips pinching off the brake line lmfao some people need to be shot in the face with bird shot point blank.

one of my favorites was an explorer that got the caliper ripped off, so the owner just tied a knot in the brake hose...lol
