Found customized Mark VIII for sale locally

It's the ultimate ford body kit... When you .Flip.Over.Read.Directions. The car looks just as good

I would drive that car no problem. The grounds are so-so but doable. Makes it look Pontiac to me.

the headlights and grille are very very tacky. I got a reply from the seller today and he says its still available. I was gonna look at it, but I really want the '97 to be fixed up rather than get another gen 1 to break all the time.

Zoom in and look at the lenses and how the grille is made and attached. Note the use of plasti-chrome.

lol another gen 1 to break all the time? Generally speaking the gen 2's are alot more problematic than the gen 1's.

Chronologically, a '93 is older than a '97, so that is a factor. Also, of the 5-6 Mark VIII's Myself and a friend have owned, and I have worked on, all 4 of the Gen 1's had more issues.

I know you are a knowledgable guy, so let me ask you this; what is more problematic in Gen 2 cars that Gen 1 cars don't also have? I'm not trying to find a loophole, I'm just wondering the differences, etc. Because all I ever seem to hear is "get a 2nd gen, they are better".

Tell us that when you're elbow deep in a blend door. :D

I'm less big, vertically, that is... Rather, I am more accurately described as "fat". lol, I am mechanically inclined, however. So, if it is a matter of following directions and understanding the job, I'd be fine.

I was really just kidding about gen 1's breaking all the time, I was refering to the two I have had. I fix my own stuff, but as some know, I just cannot do longer or more complicated jobs where I live. I have to limit it to small stuff, or go to a buddy's place if they will let me.

yeah blend door was a piece of cake but im only 5'6'' 160 haha

Coming from someone whose owned seven Marks of both generations, Gen 2's are more problematic. Mostly electronic. Motor wise I haven't had a bad Mark yet in either generations.

What, aside from blend doors, are the electrical issues? Are there really that many electrical differences between G1 and G2 cars?

Body kits are disgusting on any car and IMHO it looks like A$$ in a zip loc bag on a Mark, HATE it. I puke in my mouth when I see crap like this.

I've never cared for the body kits, BUT... usually, when someone puts them on a car like the Mark VIII, it's an indicator that they might actually give a damn about the car and it's maintenance.

Also, the seller apparently is the widow... I'm not 100% on that, but it seemed like that when I looked into it.

I like the kit they offered for gen 2 marks, and the one D-rock has on his. This one ont he car in the ad kinda makes it look like awkward in the front and rear. I like the skirts, but at minimum I'd need a Grand Am GT modded bumper like that one guy has instead of the kit front.

I don't think I ever saw a formal "gen 2" kit, though I did like that Grand Am modified one.
Personally, I've never really liked ground effects, even during the 90s and now, they seem almost as passe as the plastic body panels associated with GM.
