lol another gen 1 to break all the time? Generally speaking the gen 2's are alot more problematic than the gen 1's.
Chronologically, a '93 is older than a '97, so that is a factor. Also, of the 5-6 Mark VIII's Myself and a friend have owned, and I have worked on, all 4 of the Gen 1's had more issues..

Easier then everyone makes it out to be..I'll admit though, my first time was a pita as i have gorilla hands and am a big guy at 6'4" 245.

Coming from someone whose owned seven Marks of both generations, Gen 2's are more problematic. Mostly electronic. Motor wise I haven't had a bad Mark yet in either generations.
