Is there a big difference between the two other than one has a third member and the other is IRS? Could it be possible that the ring and pinions are interchangeable? Was just going through a Summit mag and saw Ford 8 inch so Im doing some research as of now but does anyone have some info on hand?

This is for the 8"
# R.G. Diameter 8"
# 10 7/16" x 20 RH Threaded Bolts
# Pinion Diameter 1.188" 25 Splines

Came in Mustangs, Fairlanes, Cougars, Comets of the mid/late 60's and early 70's

I have a bunch of those rears laying around with 273s, 300s, 340s, 355s. MustangII/CobraIIs had them too all but 4cylinder models.

The ring and pinion arangement is different, pinion shaft size likely too....so on.

I cant find anything on the 8.0.. Maybe Ill hit the stealership and see what they have to say?

I believe the pinion is unique to this generation of Ford's 8", meaning that why we re unable to use the gear set of other 8" or 8.8" diffs.

The pilot shaft that centers the driveshaft is a part of the pinion so even if all was a fit your driveshaft wouldn't work anyways.

Well I didnt know there was an 8" other than the 8.0 and when I looked online results came up for 8.0 gears but I guess theyre for the 8" and just got mis labeled?

I thought for a second maybe too, while I did doubt it. DTS was very quick to point out they were completely different stlyes of ring and pinions.

Ford 9" and 8" are similar in design with there R&P arrangement as are 7.5 and 8.8s. Ours is different again.

Think of the way the ring and pinion meet. Where the pinion has contact with the ring and location, depth, so on is the difference between different R&Ps. So even if the size of the ring is the same there is many many other things to consider.

Im gonna give Currie a call and see what they have to say, I know a few hotrod guys have the 8.0 IRS setup in their cars so who knows..

I just dont want to go through taking my rear apart and then finding out something aint right because I got a Gen2, which I wouldnt doubt being possible.. Ford changes things every year basically..

The 8.0 would be a odd choice to fab into a project car with its limited gearing and why would you want a Guibo in your Hot Rod. The average driveshaft place won't touch the 3 prong Guibo set up. Much more expensive custom driveshaft than using the popular 8.8.

True that. But come on... V8 RWD and they thought no one would mess with it? Oh well, can't please em all.

They made it to compete with the 540i and didnt give it an aftermarket when BMW has Dinan and makes superchargers and everything for the 5 series.. Dumb

very few of the target customers want any of that. they wasn't even enough demand for a manual transmission.

There is not even enough demand for an aftermarket vendor to jump in now, as the cars find their way into 2nd and 3rd owners. It's a smart move to stay away if they want to make money.

The LS had terrible timing. Right when SUV's were the big thing. No one wanted a rwd v8 sedan to modify.

I will agree that the LS was not marketed towards gearheads.

We don't really need aftermarket vendors though. It's nice to have stuff fabricated, and be unique. Sure it may cost more, but this is a lot more fun than a mustang that can be built in a weekend with damn near off the shelf parts and kits.

The modified LS is a real enthusiast's automobile.

Yeah, I said it :D

Its a real PITA if you ask me but whatever, maybe that Streetfighter Im getting will make it 60' well enough for my liking.

Well its a 3K stall so we shall see, someone on here was saying theres stalled at 2800 off a footbrake stock, I cant get mine over 1800  The Nitto NT05's I got should help alot with the stall as well, might have to lower the psi some tho...

Some people these days  So you have any plans on selling me that brace yet??? hahah
