I found a good deal on a couple subs with enclosure.

They are Phoenix Gold Xenon 10" dual 4-ohm voice coils: 1 pair

And a sealed enclosure. 3/4" MDF

For 145 shipped to my door.

The amp I have is a Kenwood KAC-9104D, and will put 900w x 1 at 1 ohm (I will wire them to one ohm).

Anyways, just wondering if anyone has any imput on the subs as far as quality. They only handle 450w rms.

Here's the specs I was able to find on the subs:

i don't really know a lot about those subs, a buddy of mine had a set of PG 12's (not sure which models they where but they had 3 led's around the logo in the center) and he was really happy with them and they sounded good.

The only thing that i would be concerned with is back a while ago when we sold that model amp, is we could never get them to run @ 1 ohm, they did say that they where 1 ohm stable but every time we tried it (driving either a pair of Alpine Type R's or Rockford P3's) they would only play for about 5-10 minutes before they would blow the fuse. we tried a couple of defferent amp thinking that it was just a defective amp but they all operated the same. out of four different systems only one of the systems worked with out any problems, the rest of the time we just had to take a ton of money off of either the Alpine or Rockford 1000's for the package, so i dont know if there was just a bad batch of them or if there was a mistake on the specs and it was supposed to only be 2 ohm stable, but needless to say we didn't try to sell many more of them to see if the problem was ever fixed.

Another bit of info. My current setup is a single 12" sub. Directed Audio SX12D4. dual 4 ohm voice coil, wired to 2 ohm. 1200W max, 600w RMS. In a vented enclosure.

I would probably just try to get a second Directed, a slightly bigger amp, and stick with a ported box

The box is a freebie, I just have to pay 35 bucks to ship it.

But these probably won't be better? I was going to sell what I have, and put these in the trunk. Really what I liked about these is they would fit completely under the rear shelf.

I don't want to buy a bigger amp, just was thinking about switching the sub/box out.

the audio store i go to used to sell phoenix gold stuff. pretty quality stuff they have. the only bad thing ive ever experianced with them was their amps. ive been through 2 of them in a pretty short period of time. i say pick em up. 10s are the way to go of you are going to be getting anything imo. i love the accuracy of them.

Eh.... TBH any major car audio buffs would tell you not to get those subs. You can get some real nice underground brands for a little more.

But if you are wanting something to just toss in there and hook up to your amp I can see that being a decent deal. But I would never own PG subwoofers... or amps...

dont do it.... good price but you get what you pay for. and your amp will not run at 1ohm. for 145 you can probly find something alot better. remember 2 is not always better than 1. you can probly find 2 10inch jl w0s for that price. the new ones hit hard but are not a good sq sub. i run all hertz so thats what i recommend. im very happy. you can probly get a dieci 12 for thjat price that will sound better.

pete dont do it!... i my opinion if you want something thats gonna take a beating and keep on ticking look elsewhere...

i have two 12" kicker CVX's in my LS and they are amazing! I first had two 12'' Alpine type-x subs n blew 'em up - but the kickers take everything ive thrown at them. For power I have 2 alpine v12 amps (one for ea. sub) wired at 4 Ohm's pushin' 750w RMS / 1500w peak to ea. sub in a 1.0 sealed enclosure. Let me tell you they pound! ...and they are sealed! If they were ported (or vented/bandpass whatever) id probably need a new car by now. (and yes i have the whole trunk dynamated)

The 12''s fit nicely under the rear deck but if you want 10"s they should provide plenty of power - actually one 12" CVX in a ported box would probably be more than enough.

your actually in luck as Amazon is offering all kicker stuff on sale now...the subs are ridiculously cheap. $119.99 ea. for the 10" subs with free shipping! ask anybody thats crazy! they r usually like $250+ ea.

here are the links for 10" 2ohm and 4ohm

and yea, here is my trunk setup [as of now]...bad pic - I apologize

...and o yea, wtf is good with the LEDs on the PG subs?... idk about anybody else but i want my subs to pound, not light up... ahh whatever

I hear ya on the LED's. Thanks, guys. I'll pass on them.

let me ask you questions that will help in your qwest for new subs.
1: wat type of music do you listen to most?
2:are you more of a sound quality guy or a bass guy?
3: wat type of head unit and speakers are you running besides subs

Head unit: Kenwood Excelon DDX7015:

Door speakers are eclipse something-or-others. 5x7 components, with the tweeter mounted up higher in the drawer:

I would prefer sound quality to over-powering bass. I like it to be balanced.

But if I want to listen to something bass heavy (i.e. Nelly's "Pimp Juice" lol), I really want the bass to rumble.

Here is the sub/enclosure I have now. It's just a generic enclosure.

And for those who say my amp is not 1-ohm stable, everything I can find says it is. In plain writing.

Pek, is there something with your bass' sound now that you're not happy with? The reason I ask is that I'm going to be putting a single Kicker 12" Solobaric w/ Kicker Vented enclosure in mine, and am wondering if I'll end up in the same spot you are.

TRU - just the bassics, please

Nah, it's fine the way it is. I just thought if it was an excellent deal, then I would buy it. I haven't been looking for anything else, it just sort of fell into my lap.

not a bad setup but maybe just do a custom box for your 12 that meets its specs. and add dynamat. belive it or not it not only stops rattles but increases sound quality and decibels.

I think I would really prefer a sealed enclosure for more accuracy. I tried to purchase a 36sf pack of dynamat extreme from krys ( a member here) for 150, but she never got back to me. Guess I'll have to try somewhere else.

Thanks for the tips!

We used to call that amp "death" back in the day. It would be running fine then all of the sudden it would blow. Also phoenix gold is cheap crap. Like everyone else is saying, your get what you pay for. The LS is a classy car, put some quality stuff in there. Phoenix gold belongs in Kia's.

ive been in car audio for 15 years now. every company has cheap stuff for the masses then high end stuff for people that know whats up. phoenix gold has been around for a long time and have had some of the best amps in the past. the xenons are cheap just like the kickers and most of the subs anyone on here has. now the phoenix titanium line badass. good audio costs alot, way more than anyone wants to pay when they can go to best buy and get amp and subs for $300. any decent sub costs over 200 each and any good sub amp is at least 600 and requires 2 gauge wire minimum. car audio used to be high end now its all fast and furious crap for the masses that wanna "bump" for cheap

the ls is kinda classy but not really, especially with all the pimp rides around. cheap american cars really, but i likem

im ranting......to much sugar today.................................................................................................................................

i must disagree. you can get a high quality sub amp for alot less than 600. just cuz it cost a certain amount doesnt make it bad or good. and the pheonix gold titanium amps were badass but that line isnt available anymore beings that pheonix gold sold there name to a cheap a$$ company.

p.s. i have been in the audio buisness for many years. az-specialists.com we have won many awards
