First Step To Good Sound

Mine should be done by the 10th of Jan or sooner but if you want to hear "about" what it's going to sound like, listen to DLF's exhaust clip on the 1st page of this thread. He had headers and a different type of high flow cats but the sound should be very close to the same.

As for the finish, I was only making sure I was getting SS but Magnaflow apparently polishes just about everything they make or they chrome their parts. Length wise, I went short with mine and not all have an X inside. Some are muffled straight through, just like straight pipes but mufflers built into it. I'm just not looking for loudness. I did think about going with the muffled X and no mufflers but after hearing a couple at WOT, I decided against it.

I would have it put in sooner but the mufflers haven't shown up yet and when they do, I want to take it to the shop to see if they will run their SS pipe with mandrel bends for the same price or less than the kit that's online, minus the labor of course. I'll most likely end up ordering the kit because I have recently remembered that I have an ex-family member that used to do exhaust for a living and now he works out of his own garage and I'll be able to drive there quietly and not cut anything. He can cut it off. Just depends on him having the time. If not, I'll have a shop do it and I'll cut the cat and res off myself first.

They are all stainless steel I just wanted save the 35 bucks for natural vs the polished since no one is ever going to see the underside but me. I too am going to order the madrel bent kit but not doing stainless as the car will only be a fair weather car and drivin in the winter either. Again to save some money and not looking for flash just function at the best price. I may spurge for the nice oval tips as they add a lot to the over all appearance.

Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

Me and you both! Can't wait to have it put in and hear the new sound. The only reason I'm going to spend the extra for SS is to know that I should never have a problem with it in the future but I could have gotten by with the aluminized steel kit seeing how the car pretty much stays in the garage all the time and isn't driven in the rain but I never know about the future. Next year, I might not be living in a house with a garage. No plans on moving or anything but you never know what's going to happen and if the car was ever put outdoors and driven in the rain, the pipes would never be an issue as for rusting up on me. I just figure while I'm doing it, go all the way with it and hopefully be done with it for good.

the first shop i went to told me they would not cut the 3rd cat, and if I did it then brought it to them to add exhaust, they didn't want to be involved....the 2nd place I went to, they cut it out, and put it back together- true 2.5'' duals...but that clown also told me a crossover, H, or any scavenging blend would be a waste, so he did none of those... eventually I got the first place to clean up his mess; I STILL have a droopy RH tip to get reset

So, do you have an H or X in the exhaust system? It's not a waste and some on here even go with two X pipes because it equalizes your exhaust and some other reasons. Helps eliminate drone for sure and I know two of them do for sure.

I really would like to see your cutout up close because it might just be my eyes but yours appears to be more rounded looking at the top and not as wide as the other cutouts I have seen on a Gen 1. If possible, do you think you could get a measurement from one side of the cutout to the other? I'm trying to figure out if they're the same or maybe there was a difference in years. I'll measure mine and get a pic of it being measured from the beginning of the cutout to the ending of the cutout. Just looking at yours seems to show a lot of roundness at the top where mine has a small section of flatness (kinda) before curving again. I'll measure it before the night is out.

You can get the same one, polished for $107.66 from here. DLF is the one that told me about that site. He bought his from there too and my mufflers are on their way from them now. They are in Los Angeles, I believe or somewhere close.

Try to enter $1.00 and it will come back with $107.66, instead of their asking price of $140.29

This is my last update from Performance Peddler with the shipping of the mufflers.

Very nice thank you for that info, I ordered one from there.

yea, I was ignorant as to what I wanted going in to the mod...now I have a preformed (stamped) un-muffled x-pipe crossover 12'' in length at mid body; this does nothing to reduce cabin noise but it makes a much better balanced flow- the exhaust breathes in and out now, before it just kinda blasted; again, if I had it do over, I'd use a crossover x-muffler at midbody to reduce cabin noise, then straight pipe the rest of the way...that's a better look imo; then when I decided it was too loud, I'd add muffs at the bumper
-alot of the time it seems too loud now; but when I dust somebody it sounds great
the length/width of my elipse is nominally 6 5/8''...can't really measure the elevation of the apex (vert dimension)..
here's some pix
I think because my paint is dark-colored the cutout assumes the shape of the tip...round

top priority now is painting those ugly-arse flowmasters flat black so they disappear

here's how they look in the light...just need to paint those muffs and I'm satisfied

That's all they need is some paint on them and then they would less visible. I sold a set of NIB Flowmaster 40's to someone on here but I can't remember who it was. It's been a couple of years ago. I was going to put them on the 94 I had but never did. This time I'm serious about the exhaust and it's getting done before mid Jan.

Don do you drive this car to and from the track? I see you only run the x and no mufflers which is my plan too unless it is just unbearable in the cabin.?

I drive it regularly on the street. It is loud but it did not drone for the first year. But it has gotten a little bit louder and is starting to drone a little now.

Damn, nice loot. Are you going for complete silence? lol

Just want it to be dual, X'd and have a low tone rumble. 1st or 2nd page, DLF has a sound clip of his and everything is the same except he has headers. I like the sound of it. I really don't want the Harley sound but it should be heard if I get down on it.

Now the guy that was going to do the exhaust has backed out. He says he's going to need a pipe stretcher most likely, which he doesn't have. Then he goes on about it might need a bend here and there and he don't have a bender and just simply wouldn't want to get involved with it. I give up. I'm going to call some shops Monday and I might get lucky and find one that will install everything and stfu about the 3rd cat. I would drive to Jersey but 900 miles is just too far for me right now with the kid in school.

patience...someone will do it.....the second shop I talked to cut it out and did the true duals....$250 for labor and pipes...we're 3 hours apart
(before I got the x)

I'll bring the pipe and driving 3 hours is nothing. I just don't see any shop around here cutting out that third cat and if I take it out, I don't see anyone messing with it, unless they want to put another cat in. I'm going to try Decatur, AL. Monday because there are a few shops over there and one that I know of is the type that don't really care but I have to make sure they're still in business. If not, I'll drive 3 hours and bring everything with me and let them install it all.
