Fastmarks drift car progress thread

my dad's 89 cougar XR7 has a center pull e brake and the XR7s were offered with a 5 speed manual as an option.
don't have any idea whether or not anything from the center console will fit though.

Thanks! Already sourced out a centre console and hand e brake set up from one!

So a tiny update, sourced out a t56 out of an ls1 that needs a rebuild for 600, found some 4:30 gears with a rebuild kit for 200, and my brother in law has made up the first design for the front/ rear braces so we are gonna fab em up and do a revision.

Next is doing the front/rear swaybar. I already have a little something mocked up :)

Wait, why would you ever need a T-56 in a drift car? Helluu? That's like putting a T-56 in a drag car.
No need for the last 2 gears.
Imo a T-5 would do just fine.

How will you improve the steering angle?
Hmm, a Mark Viii drifter in Sweden. Would be perfect because the bolt pattern is the same as on the most common Volvos! :D
Too bad a Marks costs way too much to turn into a drifter ...

Car is gonna be daily driven in the summer still, would like to get some gas mileage

Oh, okay then!
I thought it would only be a drifter :D
Wait a second.
Having 4:56 gears wont give you the best milage even if you have a 6 speed :D

Atleast you can be happy the gasoline is cheap in the US!
Over $8 gallon in Sweden ... :D

Well it's around $2.06 for a gallon here. Can you buy some petrol for me and ship it to Sweden? ;)

Little update, custom swaybars came in, got 4:30s in, rebuilt the whole front end and got ahold of a t56 for 640 bucks :D I'm keeping the sway bars a secret till the car is done. Let's just say they are thick, pink and don't mount in factory locations! Car is stiff as fock. Took the air ride out and got all t bird parts. She's low and has 0 body roll. My brother in law spent a lot of time developing these sway bars and 2 other special mounts!

t5 will bolt right up to a 4.6 if you get an early 92 block with the t5 pattern....or get an adapter made...

this should be interesting...mark viii's have too much understeer from the factory...I have yet to be able to slide my rear end out around a corner....I give you props for having the courage to do it, but a mustang would be such a better platform...the solid axle and suspension is so much better for sliding around corners...I'm not an IRS specialist, but I'm doubtful that it's going to work well with your plans

I have yet to be able to slide my rear end out around a corner....

LOL. oh man, i definitely have! before the trac loc i could slide pretty good. after the trac loc, OH MY GOODNESS. i can go sideways all over the place! sometimes its too much. it'll work just fine.

also. the pontiac gto has IRS and Top Gear and Rhys Millen have demonstrated it is quite good at sliding.
so it's possible.

Turn your traction control off :p. My 98 will kick the back end out with little effort. I had way too much fun with it when I was on worn tires.

Keep in mind most of the cars the drift kids run have IRS, there is no reason why it's inherently unacceptable. On the contrary, I've watched Mustangs embarrass themselves in drift competitions.

Funny, I haven't been on in a while and came back to see this thread. I mentioned this very idea to Rich when I was there picking up some wheels this summer. I think the car is very well suited to it, I was hoping to be the unique one but at any rate, I'm definitely curious to see how this turns out.
