so i finally got my thermostat done. took a while but i got it without having to take the housing out of the car. Anyways, i pulled my water pump too just to make sure it wasn't that causing my car to over heat either and it was fine. SO i put it all back together fill the car with coolant through the hoses going into the crossover tube because my cap is totally f*cked.

the car still over heats so im thinking hmm probably didnt put enough coolant in. resivour is full and the hoses are filled to the max. My brother in law comes about and says "hey, i can get your cap off just gimmie a second".

Now i trust(ed) him to do it. He takes a punch and a hammer to the cap and knocks the whole f*cking thing off the cross over tube. Broke the weld and everything. So now the lincoln is sitting in my shop collecting dust.

Can I just weld the thing back on and weld a nut on top of it so i can actually get it off or whaat?
 
Easy to replace, just need new o-rings from any auto parts store. Shipping will be under $10. Can prolly fit in one of them flat rate boxes.
 
It weighs about 1/4 pound or so, shipping will be around $10
 
I just bought one from Jamie's father inlaw. I am getting it cleaned and powder coated before it goes on with the many other parts I am accumulating for the over the sleepy winter time.

how did you take it off, I tried taking mine off of my old engine. I had a hard time using the biggest hammer I could find
 
You will melt the "O" ring if you get it too hot. You are going to need to remove the plug in order to burp the system other wise you will never get all the air out of it. I did read where one person took and mounted a schrader valve in his cap so he could just push down on the stem to relieve the air bubble. That sounded cool!
 
I welded a big nut on the top of mine when I changed the coolant. It's welded all around and smoothed out so looks fine too, plus it works great now :)
If you put a schrader valve on there you'd still have no were to fill it nicely if you can't get the cap off imho...
 
You can also use the top heater core hose to fill the block if you cannt get the cap off. I've used this method many times and it works. The hose I'm talking about are on the pass side back by the firewall. Take the top one off and use a funnel to fill the block after the overflow tank has been filled. Start engine let warm and top off if needed.
 
Sapperfires way always worked on stuck caps. He puts the wrench into the cap and taps it with a rubber mallet or his hand. Ive seen him pop off some stubborn caps that way.

yup, just give it a jolting smack, then a tad of anti seize when reinstalling.. let me know if you need my extra one...or ill probably throw it in the trash
