Ok, so here's the deal... I've shampooed my carpet twice & it simply doesn't improve. My interior is disgusting, I'm tired of it. The nice new seats don't match the rest of my beat down carpet & steering wheel. (The retard that owned it spilled god knows how much crap on it & tore the steering wheel apart) & frankly I'm tired of the tan carpet, I want black carpet in the car. The ideal thing would be to purchase a new rug but for those that don't know I'm unemployed & every dime I have is extremely important to me. I want to dye my carpet black. A friend of mine did it on an Acura Integra he used to own about 6 years ago & I remember it looked like new but he didn't keep the car long enough for me to know if it was worth it. I have my truck to drive so I can take the carpet out of the car & work on it outside!
I've also heard that there are people that wash the carpet, use spray paint then wash it again. Being that the color Im going for is black I figure imperfections will be hard to spot.

Let me know what you guys think.

Number 1, I dont believe in aftermarket carpet anymore. I payed 400 bux for one for my SHO a few years back it was "molded"...ya my butt. They just put some half ass dips in it for the floor pans. It was awful. I could only imagine an aftermarket carpet for a Mark with all of its angles and contours. I dyed one of my old carpets gray, but the carpet was already gray. It looked great, but if always felt kinda crusty if you touched it. Kinda like if you let pop dry on the carpet.

Ive done it to my tan carpet and it WILL wear off showing the tan under it. DONT DO IT!! you will regret it everytime you get in your car. Just hold out for someone to post a half way decent carpet.

I just went on Craigslist & there's a guy parting out a 98 LSC, black on black. He wants $60.00 for the carpet & he won't budge! I'm going to try to work out a deal on the steering wheel & the carpet. I'm headed his way in about 30 minutes. Let's see what happens.

60.00 is a steal if its not ripped or burned, hell id pay more than that for one.....well i have payed more but traded it off for an engine!! lol

UltimateSVT do you still remember how much it cost you to get new leather for the seats? Also, the junk yard next to me got a gen 1 Mark VIII fresh with about 70,000 miles black on black but I don't remember what the carpets looked like now.

Do me a favor and see if it has a sunroof... If it does not, lemme know what he/you wants for the sun visors.

Thx!

Let me tell you the guy is a bit of a tard!!! He's lucky I needed the carpet. He tells me $100.00 when I got there & when I tell him he's insane & that he had told me $60.00 because they had to do the labor he said fine, I'll leave it at $60.00. Then I tell him I'll do the labor myself. I asked for some tools & the ass has the nerve to tell me that he's not dropping the price because I'm borrowing his tools. I know that the carpet was solid & good & that's why I gave him the $60.00.

Dan I'm actually going back for the visors for my car as well.

NOW HERE'S THE PUZZLING PART.............

I take apart the car & when I pull out the carpet it freakin looks charcoal gray. I had already paid tha man so the hell with that. I washed the carpet when I brought it home but I can't get over how gray it looks. I didn't want to go through this dying situation but I guess I'll have to anyway. Anyone have any pointers?

I used a fabric dye spray that was supposed to be for car interiors on the carpet in my Merc a while ago. I went from very light gray to black, but it never did look black anyways, just dark gray/charcol. It did last for many years though and only got a hair lighter...

I remembered something else from a post Geno did. A second gen carpet won't have the build up under the center console so you will have a gap under your center console. Nothing major I guess, but it's like a 1 inch gap.

WHAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!?!?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT SOME OF THE METAL UNDERNEATH WILL SHOW AROUND THE CENTER CONSOLE? WHERE? OMG! I'M PMing GENO! $H!T!!! I KNEW THINGS WERE GOING TOO SMOOTH!

I love your seats, who did them for you? how much did it cost

Dude its a local shop here in Miami, Fl. They charged me $950.00 after I begged them for an hour straight. Their original price was $1,150.00 & the quality is amazing. My car smells great after I installed those seats & that was back in August 2009.

what are the carpets made of ? if you identify the fiber they are made of you can pick the proper dye to use ie polyester requires the use of a disperse dye that requires you to dip the entire item. I'd hold out for other options.

yet she has a tattoo that states that SHE is the property of HIM.. ironic

actually my mom does interior designing , shes dyed some carpets..ill ask if she has any opinions for ya
