Does SCT work with Vista?

Wasn't plugged in. It happened while driving after the car warmed up. I dumped on the gas from a stop to see if the tune was ok and it had no rev limiter at all and just shot up to 7k rpms when the problems happened.

what is your 1-2 shift point set to?

what PCM code are you working with?

I'm gonna try this ONE last time.

WHO did you get the X-3 from?

This will go along way in figuring out WHAT the issue is.

I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to get my tune onto my programmer. I got the program (updater) installed to my computer however it doesn't recognize my tuner nor will it find the tune I downloaded. Is it because I have Vista that these issues?

After TWO f'n hours scouring SCT's website and multiple forums I came up empty handed. Nothing better than wasting the little time I do have to come up with zero conclusions. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

The current version of the SCT Device Updater works on 32 and 64bit versions of XP, Vista, and Windows 7. The most common issue is due to plugging in the programmer before you installed the software. If you have done this, Windows assigns a generic driver that the SCT software cannot over-write on it's own. You have to do one of the following. Either install the software, and then unplug the usb cable and try a different port that has not seen the tuner yet. -OR- Install the software, then go into the device manager, find the programmer, right click on it and hit update driver. Different versions of windows have different ways to get this done but that is the ultimate goal.

welp...the xcal3 part answered all my questions..

the new sct stuff that was "rushed to market" is full of bugs

i've tried to steer folks away from the x3's..due to bs bugs

funny thing, is..(you wont think so) ALL the old sct stuff works fine with vista, and vista wasn't even thought of when the old sct stuff was created.

but..the new stuff... doesnt play well with vista..and I think thats funny.

of course it's not funny to you..and I understand that.

who did you get the x3 from, they are the ones that should be supporting you.
they made the profit...make them make it work

on the sct proracer forum(you can only access after buying the prp software) there are several stickies with all the hoops you have to jump thru to get their new stuff to work with vista.

sorry to say i cant help you.

if you had avd 2.9 or adv 3.0 an x2 or extreme tune you'd be fixed RIGHT NOW

It's true the X3 had bugs when it was first released. They have since been fixed, the current firmware is working great.

Again, new stuff works fine with Vista. My tuning laptop was vista and is now windows 7. Both.. no issues.

The stuff of the PRPforum that I have seen applies to old versions of SCT software. New stuff, install it. Run it.

AND run it in COMPATIBILITY MODE and disable desktop composition AND user account control..

there are several other sct suggested fixes, including allowing sct to log into your machine and fix it...
it ALL sucks

All of this is no longer necessary.

did you read on where he got past this hurdle and almost blew up his car and downed the SCP network?

i dont think thats a desired effect do you?

I just got back from my cruise today so I can test out the new tune that was sent to me. I'm hoping it fixes the previous issues. However my charge (battery light on the dash) is still constantly on. I'm hoping I didn't fry something in the alternator. The belt did squeal when it happened.

XLR I didn't mention who I bought it from because problems do arise and I'm not trying to be one of "those" guys that slams someone when a mistake comes up. The guy is trying to work with me and is patient but I'm posted on here for other viewpoints. I'm giving him the chance to fix his mistakes.

I do very much appreciate your input however.

well I wasn't really looking to lynch mob a tuner, but if you said you got it from Lonnie or one of the other tuners that I'm familiar with I could say your in good hands.

feel free to PM me, I wont breath a word of it..

absolutely no problem with that...so long as your getting support.

since your knee deep into it.. I'd suggest getting the PRP package.

fixing the 1-2 shift is fairly easy..but it wont be long til you want to change something else...namely the tc lock up schedule.

shift points and TC lock up are two very hard areas to mail order tune.
Since the settings are really really biased to personal opinion and "Feel"

i know the type of person you are, you'll love this stuff.

get the software there are several users around here that can help you.

and unless your current tuner is one of the big 3 mark 8 tuners, then they probably know less about the intricate nature of these PCMS that mnay of us do..which is why i asked who it was....especially if they are a mustang tuner, these are not mustangs...lol

somewhere around 7-7200ish the alternator does shiit the bed.
drillers an expert in this dept of alt killing

try not to wot the 1-2 shift til it successfully shifts at say 3/4 throttle.

So again the new tune that was sent isn't shifting. This time I knew from last time to let out of the gas if it doesn't shift by itself by 6500rpm's which at 6500rpm's it still wasn't shifting, and the belt started squeaking again.

I'm quite pissed because I found out my alternator is now fried, however if you remember about two weeks ago I bought a new battery and had the alternator tested and everything ran perfect after getting my new battery. So now I'll have to eat $200 for someones else's mistake. I'm quite pissed off. I'm calling today in hopes there can be some middle ground on this.

I swear if it isn't one thing it's another with cars!

Dont jack with the spark..lol
ONLY the 1-2 shift...
it's tempting to change abunch of stuff.. dont.
stay focused
